So, if I'm understanding the proposal correctly:
Status Quo:
Power tab: power config, power actions, recent power commands
Provision tab: manual provisioning settings (distro tree, etc)
The "Power" tab also includes the reprovisioning settings (for when
the
release action is "ReProvision")
Proposal:
Power tab: power config, power actions (recent power commands
removed)
Provision tab: manual provisioning settings (distro tree, etc) +
clear
netboot
CommandActivity: "Power" command history
The "Power" tab still includes the reprovisioning settings (for when
the
release action is "ReProvision")
I don't like it. As its own tab, CommandActivity is almost identical
to
the existing history tab with a default filter of "Field Name
contains
'Power'"
The "Clear Netboot" command is also likely to be used in
conjunction with either the Reboot, Interrupt or Power On commands,
so
it doesn't make sense for it to be on a separate tab from those
commands.
I didn't really think of it that way, I was just thinking if Joe Bloe
came along and wanted to 'unprovision' a system,
the 'Provision' tab would be a sane place to find it (I think).
The most straightforward solution seems to me to be to move the
commands
out to their own tab (with the command history), leaving Power for
the
power config, and Provision for provisioning (since you need to pick
a
distro, etc). A separate command tab will also give us a home for an
"Inventory Hardware" button at some point in the future, too
(although
Dan pointed out that can't currently work for manual systems due to
smolt not getting along with kickstarts).
There's another perk to moving those action buttons out of the Power
tab
- on a separate Command tab, they'll be easily accessible immediately
below the tab bar, rather than having to scan down over the power
config
settings.
Yeah moving the Power config settings out to their own tab is also
a pretty sane idea. Having them mixed up with other random commands
is a bit odd.
Cheers,
Nick.
