#310: Improve Bodhi comment wording --------------------+------------------------------------------------------- Reporter: kparal | Owner: Type: task | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: 0.4.7 Component: core | Keywords: --------------------+------------------------------------------------------- Our Bodhi comments cause confusion for some package maintainers:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2011-April/150639.html
We should change the comments a little to stress that AutoQA does not block any updates in any way. Proposed new version of the comment:
''AutoQA: depcheck test PASSED ... Result: http://.... '''(This result is purely informational, AutoQA never blocks your update.)'''''

I don't disagree with the idea itself, I'm just wondering whether the most important information in the comment is being drowned out by the extra information.
In my mind the importance of the information in the comment is ordered as follows: 1. depcheck 1. PASSED 1. URL to results 1. Anything else
Unfortunately, I'm not thinking of any other solutions that would be as quick to implement as this one would be.
One thought would be to use a URL shortener like ur1.ca or 2tu.us (both based on open source code) for the results URL.
Another would be more of a RFE for bodhi - have the autoqa username show up as 'autoqa (informative)' until we actually start enforcing autoqa test results, at which point the username would show up as 'autoqa (enforcing)'.

Let's make it shorter?

as follows:
- depcheck
- PASSED
- URL to results
- Anything else
Yep, that's the order the new comment is in, isn't it?

Little controversial, but when I consider the very short lifetime of our comments, it might be appropriate.
Another would be more of a RFE for bodhi - have the autoqa username show
up as 'autoqa (informative)'
Nice idea. It depends how much work that would mean for Luke. Can you ask him?
until we actually start enforcing autoqa test results, at which point
the username would show up as 'autoqa (enforcing)'.
At that point of time I hope we'll have better ways to present our results than using Bodhi comments :) </wishful thinking>

On second thought, I don't like it so much. It involves creating hacks in Bodhi (name rewrite), hacks in AutoQA (bodhi comment detection must be adjusted to different names). We can put the same information in the comment itself much easier.
To sum it up, if anyone believes this ticket is unnecessary, let's cancel it. If I were to decide, I would do some compromise:
''AutoQA: depcheck test PASSED ... Result: http://.... (Results are informative only.) ''

It still might be worth asking about, but I'm inclined to agree with you here unless we start having more problems with the misunderstanding of comments.
''AutoQA: depcheck test PASSED ... Result: http://.... (Results are
informative only.)
''
I did some work yesterday on integrating a URL shortener into AutoQA/Autotest. It's a bit hacky but it did seem to be working (had some unrelated issues during testing, didn't quite finish).
The idea was to put the link http://<autotest_server>/<some_dir>/X where X is the link number returned by the URL shortener.
If anyone is interested in seeing what I did there, let me know. I'm not sure it's ready to push to git but I can put a diff up somewhere.
Otherwise, I don't have any really strong feelings about this. I'd be OK with your proposed modification. Another option might be: ''AutoQA: depcheck test PASSED ... Result: http://.... (non-enforcing)''
