I prefer a well written program that doesn't require expensive bodges to
keep my data safe. What's your point?
Don't diss fixups entirely: hitting an "expensive bodge" once in a while
can be The Right Thing(tm). In some cases it's cheaper than testing
multiple conditions on each iteration of a loop. Using fixups can also
result in shorter code that is easier to audit for correctness and
easier to maintain. (I'm thinking particularly of streaming data here).
