uboot with hyp mode support now available for the cubietruck
by Hans de Goede
Hi Richard et al,
Good news for those wanting to play with hw virt on arm, there now
is a u-boot with hyp support:
[ 0.050980] CPU1: Booted secondary processor
[ 0.051033] CPU1: thread -1, cpu 1, socket 0, mpidr 80000001
[ 0.051181] Brought up 2 CPUs
[ 0.051201] SMP: Total of 2 processors activated.
[ 0.051208] CPU: All CPU(s) started in HYP mode.
[ 0.051213] CPU: Virtualization extensions available.
To use this, build this uboot from source:
https://github.com/jwrdegoede/u-boot-sunxi/commits/sunxi-test
ie:
make -j4 CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnu- cubietruck_config
make -j4 CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnu-
sudo dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1024 seek=8
And use it with this kernel, which removes a hack I had added
to get the arch timers to work without proper uboot support:
https://github.com/jwrdegoede/linux-sunxi/commits/sunxi-test2
I called it sunxi-test2 rather then re-using the old sunxi-test,
so that people with an older u-boot following sunxi-test don't
get bitten by needing a newer u-boot.
Enjoy & Regards,
Hans

You don't have instructions for how I would cross compile.
Can you also start a new thread, it shouldn't have hijacked the meeting thread

What should the u-boot address be for the BBB, and how do I check it?
I noted something strange with the beta5 image. Even a pristine image
freshly created according to the install instructions (dd, copy uboot
files) doesn't actually boot from the SD card.
When I press the boot switch, and power on the BBB, it hangs at "Starting
kernel ...".
When I don't boot from the SD card (boot switch not pressed), it boots from
the eMMC, that in some way seems to chainload the kernel from the SD card,
and boots it. This allowed me to boot Fedora in the first place.
Any ideas anyone?

Booting Fedora from eMMC
by Geert Jansen
Hi,
I tried to get F20 booting from the internal eMMC. I did as described
below, but it didn't work. The result is a bricked BBB (I assume I'll be
able to restore it with the 'BBB-EMMC-flasher' image but I haven't tried
yet):
- I installed Fedora to an SD card, and booted from it.
- From within Fedora, I created a VFAT uboot filesystem and an ext4 root
filesystem on the eMMC.
- I copied the contents of /boot/uboot and / to the eMMC. I copied with
'tar' and made sure permissions, labels, etc are OK.
- Changed the filesystem UUIDs in /etc/fstab on the eMMC.
When I boot from the eMMC, the only output on the serial console is
"CCCCCCCC". I can't boot from the SD card anymore either. I gives a bunch
of output, and then hangs on "Starting kernel ...". The latter problem
could be something I messed up myself though, not sure it is related.
Any ideas what I did wrong? Is there a recommended way to get F20 on the
eMMC?

still do not have sata root fs bootable on wandboard quad
by Ronald
I run F20 root FS with F21 **3.12.1-2.fc21.armv7hl **kernel. (see
http://www.swissdutch.ch:4999/ ) on my Wandboard quad.
I cannot boot from sata, as the root FS is being mounted about 4 seconds
before the sata device is ready during the fedora boot process.
(And yes, I understand uSD card is needed for uboot, kernel, mouting
/boot fs etc. That is perfectly acceptable - I just want the root FS and
swap to be coming from Sata for obvious reasons).
I try to understand the magics of Fedora boot, initramfs and the likes.
It seems I need to get a PhD for this! ;-)
*Question*: how do I ensure the root fs is mounted /AFTER /the sata
device is ready???
Some people suggested adding a sleep command ro a dependency - my
question is where and how in the initramfs do I do such a thing???
(again, when booting pointing the root fs to the sd card, the sata is
working fine at the first login as seen with fdisk -l).
Cheers, Ronald

If you document it first I can test it on decent physical HW which
should be a lot faster to save you some time.

That's relatively straight forward. We need a documented process to
get it done. Once we have that I can sort it out with rel-eng but we
would need the gcc maintainer to review/approve it.
Generally what happens is that it would be built (or imported) into a
side tag build. I suspect it'll be using something like a cross
compiled version of ada which is then used to compile a native built
version of ada which is then tagged into rawhide at which point the
rest of the ada stack would be rebuilt.
Ultimately it should be straight forward and easy to complete once we
have the documented process.
