Hello Fellow Ambassadors, I have been looking around for cool ways to promote Fedora and stumbled across Ubuntu's Spirit of Ubuntu videos they are planning for the official media (media ordered from launchpad) that has several videos from prominent people in the Ubuntu community that have helped some way or another.
I think something similar but not neccessarily the same exact model would be cool to include on media that is handed out at events so people can show this to their friends and help to further spread the word.
Information on the Ubuntu program can be found here for reference https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFreeCultureShowcase
Anyway just an idea but let me know what you guys think
thanks, Andrew Jamison IRC: ajamison5579
sounds nice... like a commercial...

We had couple of "I am Fedora" videos[1][2], I also started working on "Meet the contributor"[3] video series. Showing real faces behind those IRC nicks is always a good idea.

We had a similar discussion about creating videos for promoting Fedora, something that is in line with TRUTH HAPPENS video, but we never really had heads up on that.

Yeah i like your video idea Naresh but I am thinking more a video to build up the idea that Fedora is the right distro for the users using the official media. Also i was thinking of the pass it on angle. If a user likes Fedora and passes the disc to a friend they can get an idea of how Fedora works and what makes it different then other distributions.

Maybe it would be useful to send this proposal to Marketing Project (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing).
I think this could be a good starting point to investigate new and original ways to communicate with people. Fedora demonstrated and is demonstrating that there are infinite possibilities to do a thing, and sure fedora marketers will be able to think, with the contribution of all the community (Ambassadors too!), at some genius idea to spread the Fedora voice.

Wouldn't it also be good if we could package it along with our live cds as a demo or something. I believe it will make a good addition to help spreading the word about fedora. ----- Jose M Manimala http://jmmblog.in.eu.org

Yes this was the idea pick the best few videos and throw them on the live cd with a link on the desktop to launch them of course we will have to make them ogg or some open format.
Keep in mind there is nothign official planned i am trying to get a feel for what people think and if there is enough interest we can try and see what the board thinks about adopting this idea.

Hello,
I have just made a technical demo of a scripted svg.
http://mgautier.fedorapeople.org/anim-fed.svg
It is just a try, to see if it possible to have a "video like" in svg.
On my part I think that svg could be a good option as it is Free and it can be interactive and easily integrated in a web page.

I will most likely do that once i get a formal proposal drawn up but i want to get opinions from the community first and see where this would be steered toward. In other words weather it would be a promotional oriented video or a behind the fedora kind of video.
thanks, Andy IRC Nick: ajamison5579
I agree with you Andrew. We'll show the users that Fedora is the right distro by showing them what we have IN Fedora, by featuring the unique features that fedora created. What makes us feel proud as Fedora users. What sets us DISTINCTLY apart.
About "promotional oriented" and "behind fedora", our objective should be, let's say we make a video of 2min, we'll have to show case the best of Fedora that after watching, the viewers would feel the true Spirit of Fedora and should really want to try their hands on one.
I am so wanting to make this happen.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought this a good idea. I know it will probably not make the F11 release but this could be a project geared towar f12 and on. Also we could include non video goods as well such as audio tracks interviewing people like say Max or Paul should they want to be a part of it. Also text interviews focusing on the power of Fedora. I know there is a wealth of information out there that is so cool about what makes Fedora different and most users never see it or even know about it thus they can not truly appreciate the power of Fedora.
I think an important note I should add is this is not a Fedora is better then your distro project this is merely a way to show the finer points of Fedora and let the community decide for themselves which is better in their eyes.

This was discussed earlier but people were less interested but now we can do this. We can upload them to You Tube, Google videos etc.

I would say put them on fedorapeople or something to preserve the quality. Do we really want to transcode from original to flash and then to ogg?
There are people on the Marketing team that have discussed how to carry out a distributed video project. We've been working on this on and off for well over a year but we need more people to contribute their time and energy. I would humbly suggest and request that people who are interested in doing that work, please join the Marketing team and carry on this conversation there, since it is a Marketing effort. Thank you for your ideas and enthusiasm!
