Yeesh, this is expensive. The booth cost alone is ... well, it's like airfare for three or four contributors from the west coast US or LATAM to Flock, or twice that many from the east coast or APAC.
I know this is a big, high-profile conference, but... is it worth it? What do we get out of it? Since it's _already_ an open source conference, how does our presence advance the Fedora mission?
Yeah, I'm not sure it's worth it either. We could dispose our money in events that would be more beneficial for us. Regarding EMEA, we decided not to attend this year's OSCON in London for exactly this reason.
Regards,
Matthew's description of cost is a little melodramatic (or he knows where to find way cheaper flights to Europe than I do). But it is an increased cost, but also a much, much larger booth (10'x10' instead of the old 2'x3').

May I also point out, that there are not that many high profile events Fedora attends in Europe.
If you can correct me, please send me a list, as I have been side-tracked lately.

There are quite a few of them we attend: LinuxCon Europe FOSDEM Communication Chaos Congress EuroPython ...
Some of them unfortunately ceased to exist, such as LinuxTag Berlin.

Chiming in even though I'm not an official ambassador. My feeling is "no" unless OSCON wants to comp Fedora a booth.
The show floor is typically loaded with people just looking to grab freebies, and the paid attendees already know about Fedora. We'd be far better off using that money and time to reach new / more people.
Best,

Hey all,
We discussed OSCON at the FAmNA meeting tonight.
https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting/2016-02-26/famna.2016-02-26...
After discussing this, we took a vote about OSCON and it was unanimous among all in attendance to skip over OSCON this year.
As much as it is event that is a large crowd of people, we agreed that there are better uses of our budget this quarter on making more targeted approaches to smaller communities and regions, particularly with schools, universities, businesses, and other local groups.
For the upcoming quarter, we are hoping to reflect the increased focus towards these regional events with BrickHack (March 5 -6) and Bitcamp (in April), which are focusing on university hackers at the Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Maryland, respectively. A lot of planning and work is being put into these events, and we are hoping to connect these events to tangible events with some of the resources that we can already leverage with tools in the Fedora Infrastructure.
I will add this vote to the Trac ticket in FAmNA and close the ticket. If for some reason the ticket needs more discussion, it can be reopened.

I've just heard that Red Hat *will* have a big booth there, and would be happy to share some of the space there. (Beyond just letting us, they'd _like_ us to.) There are some booth-access passes available, although we'd need to know as soon as possible. (I don't think there are any full-conference passes, unfortunately.)

Or, apparently, there is this (thanks, Ruth, for letting me know!) http://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon/open-source-us/public/content/nonprofit... but the deadline is *TODAY*.
So looks like Fedora will be sharing a 10x10 booth with Red hat.
I will take the lead coordinating Fedora's presence and participation.
Will need some help running the table, so any qualified volunteers please contact me.
Thanks, -Jon Disnard

Sounds like this will be best, then. Thanks Jon. We'll bring this up in our meeting this upcoming week and get a list of some Ambassadors together.

If it were not in Austin this year, I'd be able and willing to make it out. I will gladly help in any way I can tho Jon.

There's a pretty good chance I'll be there so mark me down.

Hey Adam,
I added you to the wiki page, but I didn't know which days you would be available to volunteer at the table, so I didn't mark you down for anything definite. Feel free to edit the wiki page with more details!

Sharing a booth with Red Hat is also a strategy for us here in Europe, too. We've already done it at several events. We wanna be back at EuroPython, but booths start €3000 which is ~15% of our annual budget. Red Hat is willing to share a booth with us, so we only have to pay for airfare, accommodation, and tickets.
