Next meeting is Dec 29, 22:00 UTC
Present: mjbrej, nman64, abompard, barz, thl, gja, gregdek, roozbeh, hornain, lxmaier
Discussed: 1. Events 2. Ambassadors Steering Committee
Events ------ Jan 31 - Feb 2, 2006 Solutions Linux 2006 abombard is in charge, we most likely have missed the deadline. lxmaier will check with the organizers for a slot in the .org village, but we are not too hopeful. if all else fais, we will be on the local lug booth
Feb 25-26, 2006 FOSDEM hornain has everything under control. will report to the list.
Mar 28-30, 2006 LWCE Australia barz will find a volunteer or two to jump in and represent Fedora at this show.
General Events Stuff
1. we all need to remember that two months befre a show is already too late to participate in most shows.
2. If transportation/accommodation expenses prevent Ambassadors from going to an event, Fedora will try to help with what little money we got. Do not expect to have all expenses covered, but we will try our best not to let you go bancrupt over an event :)
Ambassadors Steering Committee
As the Ambassadors' numbers grow, we need a few (very likely 7) people to step up and help lead the group--and we will call them "Steering Committee."
The Committee will decide on things such as which events receive higher priority (in case of limited funds and materials available), will help set the guidelines for Ambassadors, will take care of meeting preparation, agenda, an protocol, and stuff like that. In general, SC will be the organ which will help us all function better and let us have a backup for Alex :)
The members of the committee do not need to be affilliated with Red Hat or any other Fedora project. They need to be experienced enough to know what Fedora is and does, and what Ambassadors are supposed to be doing.
Ambassadors program is a meritocracy, so the ones who have shown that they are actively doing the right thing will be best candidates.
Everybody please think whether you have the time and resources necessary to be a member of the SC, and if you do, step up!
If you wish to be on the committee, or if you wish to propose someone else, write a message to the list. We will be selecting committee members during the next meeting.

Hello All,
Meeting Minutes for 2005-12-22 has been posted at: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2005-12-22
And, I would like to nominate Rahul and Patrick as well as myself for the committee members. :)
Please note I'll be on vacation from 12/25/05 until 1/15/06 and I won't be able to attend next IRC meeting since I'll be out of country. I'll be in Korea and Singapore.

I will accept my nomination and vote for both Thomas and Rahul. I think it is understood that Alex should have a place. Greg would also be a good candidate.
Anyone else who is considering nominating themselves or others should be aware that it is not a casual commitment to be taken lightly. You must be ready and able to devote the necessary time and resources, and should not accept a position if there is any chance you will have to walk away. A position on the SC should not be treated as temporary or a way to contribute casually. There may not be a defined 'term' for a position on the SC. Accepting a position is making a solid commitment to the Fedora Project. If you are looking for a more casual position, the status of Ambassador is perfect, and there may be other opportunities in the future to take on additional responsibilities.

And this would be perfect time to point out http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Vacation for anyone else who might be planning a vacation. That it a permanent reference point whenever a contributor will be going on vacation. Just don't forget that you have to go back and remove yourself from the list when you return. ;-)
Merry Christmas and Happy Fedora New Year!

Many of you also seem to be itching for new ways to contribute. If you want some other ideas, see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HelpWanted for summaries. Also remember that you don't need our blessings to go out into your community to try to recruit new users and contributors. You could even start your own LUG if you wanted to. It doesn't take much to get the people around you involved. You also might have a chance to engage people in the coming days, as many people will have gotten new computers or new hardware to play with!

As I have "read it correct" (between the lines) and see the coming response (in the mailing-list) to the mail Alex has written is: imho the important persons of the Steering Comitee are those people which work a long time before Fedora Core together ...
And imho I belive they should do it. Their experiance and knowledge (in all important things and persons within Red Hat, Fedora, Marketing, exhebitions, organisations etc.) will be the best we could ever get. We all, new and young ambassadors are only or can only be "helping hands" maybe with new ideas to the Steering Comittee, but I'll do it very likely.
Maybe, if I have an idea I'll give it to the Comittee, it should decide what to do with my idea ...
I belive in that concept.
In my eyes, Alex, Rahul, Patrick, Thomas, David and Greg are the first choice of the persons which should lead the "Ambassadors".
Just my five cents to the discussion.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!
Regards
Gerold

+1
Further, I confirm my desire to be on the SC.
And in reaction to Gerold's remark about "reading between the lines"--the requirement of a certain level of experience and proven commitment seems to be justified for all who want to lead the Ambassadors project. I hope I stated this clearly in my notes, and not only "between the lines."
Cheers, a
