Subject: Re: [Ambassadors] FAD APAC 2013
Hi David,
Hi Magie,
The local Fedora ambassadors in the Philippines have already started
sharing
ideas and proposals for the upcoming FAD APAC 2013.
Thank you for keeping this going.
Based on what I've gathered, these are the premises to be
considered:
1. This will be the first FAD in APAC wherein FAMs will be arriving from
different countries.
Yes, except FUDCon.
You know, FAD is a premier event like FUDCon but smaller. FAD is also focused
on "getting things done" (no "promoting" talks). It's easier to
organize, I
think; but it's not easy, especially for this very first time.
2. Approximately, we need to budget board and lodging as well as
travel
expense for around 20 participants.
After discussing with some EMEA ambassadors (who already did the similar FAD
last year and planning to make it this year), I think we should reduce the
size to control budget/cost better so we should invite a "key" ambassador per
country, then the international participants should be around 8-10 people.
Last year, FAD EMEA got funded about US$2,000 (for 7-8 participants). This
year, it may be larger, for more participants.
It's more expensive to travel in APAC so I think our budget maybe larger.
I have no idea, but it may be around US$4,000-$5,000. I need to estimate this
asap.
3. We need to allot 3 days for this event which is preferably
scheduled on a
weekend. Friday - arrival, Saturday - work day and Sunday - departure.
Yes, it's correct.
4. We need to plan an itinerary where we can optimize the
face-to-face
meeting to discuss issues on Fedora Project and FAM issues on their
respective countries.
Sure. Also, all participants should prepare and bring their country draft plan
and ideas (something like doing an exercise) to FAD to let us discuss about
the whole APAC plan more effective.
5. This event will also be a FUDCon planning for 2014.
Yes, although the main goal is to discuss the Annual Work Plan in FY2015 for
APAC Ambassadors, discussing about FUDCon could be also an "optional" goal.
We will just continue to coordinate with Tuan and the others so we
can
finalize things ASAP. I hope that we can make this possible in Manila this
November. :)
Thanks.
Regards to the date/time, I and David had a short discussion on IRC and we see
the best time should be around early of December and January.
I should not be too soon or to late. The FY2015 would be from Mar-2014 to
Feb-2015. We need to finalize it in Jan-2014 to propose to FAmSCo and Fedora
budget owner.
Kind regards,
Tuan
