along all the media production issue and the result is, we produced
more
than the double amount this time - they are already produced - but we
have no clue where to ship them and for which event we need them ...
I think the overall number of media is ok. In the past I often found
that we didn't have enough media and were running out on events,
especially at the end of longer events. On OpenRheinRuhr for example we
ran out of media on the fist day.
Anther thing are the spins: Small sets of CDs are expensive compared to
the the mainstream media. This means we need a large number of Desktop
live media and installation DVDs in order to justify the spins.
Plus we have Afria. I don't think we ever shipped media there n the
past, did we?
But you are right: We need to distribute the media we have ASAP,
otherwise we waste money.
from my pov it also failed because it took power from more important
things we have to work on - nobody spoke about the Release Notes Content
or something release specific in the colaboration with marketing in the
meetings, because it was always - never-ending - about media.
I'm not sure if I can agree to that. The release notes content is not
really ambassador's business and we did not discuss the media *that*
often.
The meetings however did take quite long. We need to work on that and
enforce the meeting guidelines, but Pierros does a great job as
chairman.
We do Media-Production-Planing since a longer time - and we do it
based
on the events we have - and we do it as a community since ever - even in
2006 - if you read the meeting logs from FAD 2006
So i can see no improvement - the contrary!
Please keep in mind that Sascha is still ne to the project compared to
you or people speaking of 2006. He still has to learn a lot, but I'm
sure he will if we give him the chance.
We now have a large amount of great media, so lets all work together in
making the F13 release cycle the release where every region and event
has sufficient media.

Christoph
