I'd argue the problem of "empires" is largely universal, and not
specific to "RH internal".
RH internal is specific within our project since their disputes are
mirrored in our community but the problem exist universally and in the
end that is management problem.
To take example familiar to your heart the Gnome vs KDE is an dispute
which got carried into Fedora and originates from RHL 6 when KDE first
got introduced into Red Hat.
( Point of origin Red Hat enlightenment maintainers if I can recall
correctly )
Today that old dispute is taking on a new form as in form of "product"
and since the worst community players always get away with doing
anything in Fedora the workstation product is limited to a single
desktop environment and of course Gnome which in turn forces the KDE
community having to re-invent themselves and release Plasma product (
and the rest being excluded ) .
The irony of this all is that basing products on "purpose" will never
work but that's another story...
