I feel like I need to make some remarks though. EMEA region is a
region that is used by Fedora Project for organization purposes. There
is a reason to have uniform tools and processes within EMEA region,
and that is to make sure everyone has what he needs to act and not to
create fragmentation in decision making and planning-organizing.
EMEA-Africa meeting should serve a temporary role in order to help
Africa Ambassadors to know each other and help us recognise their
needs. Ambassadors meeting page [1] is not reflecting this idea and I
am worried that this could cause fragmentation.
I agree with Pierros, the Ambassadors Meeting Page reflects the 4 main Regions.
It is common sense to create own wikipages and schedules for regional or
content-related approaches (like FR-Team or India-Team or Ambassadors Mentors)
As already told on irc to Sascha as the Meeting-Lead - i have moved the
Schedule and Agenda to the Africa Meeting WikiPage
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Africa_Meetings
and scheduled the next meeting at 05-05-2010 19:00 UTC following the 14 day
cycle.
Moreover I am suggesting that a creation of an Africa SIG could
promote best the interests of the Africa Initiative within Fedora in
the sense that we generally need to look on what contributing
opportunities we have there (not only Ambassadors) and also take a
look on other possible problems too (l10n, i18n, media etc). This
could also help the Afirca task force to organize and do not conflict
with the present EMEA tools :) Remember that this task force is only
about expansion and not about function of the EMEA group (we still
have our lists, wiki, trac etc and *that* should be used by African
Ambassadors too)
Like Max said in his "Fedora Governance" on FOSDEM we need to create
governance structures for as long as they are needed and make sure
that we don't have a surplus of them binding us :)
Finally, I would like everyone on Africa to know that I am *totally*
supporting our focused efforts for expansion in their region and this
email is simply trying to find/suggest the *best* way of doing so :)
The long term goal is that we enable the African Contributors to stand on
their own feet!
So i suggest to establish a regional Meeting Lead or Co-Lead from the african
continent as a short term goal.
Clarify, if regional leadership can be established to handle logistics and
Infrastructure.
And i really want to see more Ambassadors step up like the tunisian and egypt
community or like Isaac and Nayyar from Ghana and Mocambique and spread the
word about what they are doing.
The Call for Fedora 13 Release Events
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_release_events
is a chance for all African Ambassadors to have their kick-off event in Africa!
This could be also a topic for the next African Ambassadors Meeting!
