Likewise can be use to integrate Linux with AD, but it requires some
changes to the schema of the AD, and that drops the Microsoft warranty
out of the door for that AD. therefore it'll not be a good enterprise
solution,

Hey All,
Sorry for the delay in replying!
Likewise Open looks like a great way to accomplish this; I have let
them know, and they'll be testing it out soon.
Thanks!

Likewise Open works completely on the client side and does NOT require the changes you
mentioned. Well, you did NOT say "Open" after Likewise so I guess you were
talking about the full blow product that is both client side and server side software.
Give the goal of Likewise, as well as the one or two competing commercial products in the
same space... altering the AD server side so it can manage Linux and Mac OS X clients
seems unavoidable. And to the best of my knowledge everyone does it that way. I guess
you can get around it by decided not to manage Linux and Mac OS X clients at all.
Please note that I do not advocate the use or non-use of Likewise or any other commercial
solution as I've not tried any of them... but I've read about them. Like everyone
on this list, I do prefer open solutions when they are available.
TYL,
