I think the ambassador program is a good one. I don't think it should be cancelled. But sometimes I feel like it it's really difficult to attend significant events. Sure we can have tiny events in our living rooms and such. But events where we mingle with others in the industry are difficult to get funding for.

Can you show me where funding tickets for significant events was declined when those events were good for Fedora?  There is even a procedure for large events: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mindshare-committee/large-events/

It even starts with, "While anyone can hold or attend a large Fedora-related event, these events are typically done by experienced Fedora contributors and or existing Fedora Ambassadors. "

I have seen past Ambassador event budgets and have been shocked as to how much was spent. Knowing that, I set out to make my event spending a bit more frugal.

While I've been on Mindshare, our focus has been about impact, not dollars.  If you are self-selecting away from big events because you can't justify the budget relative to the impact, that feels right.  If you're refusing to ask for funding above an arbitrary level, that is a decision you made, not the project.

However, unless one is employed by Red Hat, being an Ambassador is not a payed role but volunteer. And to get us out to key regional events costs money. This money thing should be approved with common sense, frugality of course, and curtisy. We volunteer time. We should not have to beg for swag, travel, and lodging (for events far from home).

... and the mindshare tickets show it is.  RH employment isn't a factor for this money, period.  In fact, the big event ticket that is currently open from a person who happens to be an RH employee is not approved because they aren't providing the information we request of everyone.

Also, we might want to create a talking point list for all the cool things in fedora. Last year, a few things caught me off guard. I had to play catch up at events during any down time I had.

Marketing would love your help with this document htat they try to create for every release.

But all that, if Mindshare wants to take over everything we do for, most of them are Red Had employees. Who are we to oppose?

First, of the 8 people listed on Mindshare, five (5) are not employed by RH and three (3) are.  This is far from an RH controlled body.  This is Fedora, we don't do that here.

Second, Mindshare was started as a way of solving hte inability of ambassadors to approve budgets which was blocking events.  Mindshare is approving tickets.  Your tickets have been approved.  I really don't understand where you are coming from here.

regards,

bex

Hi everyone

Perhaps this is not news anymore but it seems the relevance of the
Ambassadors Programme is in doubt.  There is a Mindshare Ticket probing
for role of Fedora Ambassadors in 2019 and best use of
resources/time/energy (https://pagure.io/mindshare/issue/145)

Have you seen it?  What are your thoughts?  Are we jaded?

Say something ... here, there.
Perhaps I am hanging on to an old concept -- the nostalgia must have
been too strong.

Regards
Onyeibo

Hey Onyeibo, thx for stepping up.

I've tried to put my input into the ticket as much as possible. I'm
currently working on a couple of small strategies to reach out to those
inactive Ambassadors and get their perspective, tho I don't have that much
free time this week.

It's part of the IT nature that some things come and go in different times,
however, this particular initiative, at least for me, represents the
highlight of what being a top contributor should be. I'll keep trying to
put my energy into the success of this Team, in hope that new and old
ambassadors reactivate.

>From my point of view, it's just a burn down of the program, and probably
this can be a great opportunity for, instead shut the program down,
reinvigorate it.

Hoping to hear from more of you.
