APAC Shipping experience from Bangladesh
by Buddhike Kurera
Hello Folks,
Following is one of the real examples to express how difficult
shipping is on our region. This comment has posted in related with F17
media (200 DVD) request from Bangladesh FAms.
<extract>
"Those DVD had arrived long ago, but the FedEx? guys didn't dropped
that package at my address. They gave me papers instead to collect it
from the government custom warehouse. I went there only to found that
I have to pay a huge amount (100 US$+) as some wired
surcharges/duties/fees. I told them these are free gifts and contain
no commercial value. They asked me to collect a NOC from BCC
(Bangladesh Computer Council - the Government's computer authority).
And my application to the BCC got no reply until now. After couple of
follow up over the phone, they replied, they've collected one DVD from
the customs warehouse to check the content and will issue me a NOC few
days later. I called four days later and freaked out, when hared that
no one knows about my application and asked me to apply again.
It seems, it would have been better to produce locally as I did
earlier for Fedora 14.
Anyway, I am closing the ticket. now."
<end of extract>
Found this when reviewing trac tickets, fedora-apac #36
Therefore till we have our next FUDcon please do ask for funds and
prepare our SWAG locally.

FUDCon Lawrence and FADNA Subsidy Requests
by inode0
Just wanted to remind everyone that subsidy requests for FUDCon
Lawrence are now being accepted and that window will close on November
13.
For North American ambassadors planning to attend FADNA, which begins
the day before FUDCon in Lawrence and will continue throughout FUDCon
in spots, if you need a subsidy please follow the FUDCon subsidy
process described below but clearly indicate in your request that you
will be attending FADNA and what you'll be doing there. This will help
those doing the bookkeeping in sorting out which funding source to use
if your request is granted.

FAD Milan - October 27 2012 - Report
by Gabriele Trombini
Hello everyone,
here's the analysis for the event held at the Milan University [1].
The event was dedicated to Fedora and planned for 4 hours on Saturday and
it was deliberately separated from Linux Day (held in the same University, but
in different rooms) and was thematic toward our distribution.
With this event we tried to involve the largest number of people in the
Fedora Project by explanations and practical sessions.
Bringing people in the fedora project was our goal.
There were two available classrooms, one for the talks and one for the
practical sessions.
The attendance to the Linux Day, in general, seemed rather weak but,
closed in a room, I could not verify the presence of people outside.
The FAD was constantly followed by about thirty people, I didn't check the
ones that went in and out.
This event was dedicated to the Fedora Project, non-unitary with others
distributions, and we did not expect the presence of a lot people, but we
believe the audience that came to follow exclusively our event was
appreciable.
The talks of colleagues and volunteers were really interesting and they
made excellent speeches promoting participation into the Project.
People have appreciated the speeches, they applauded at the end of each
talk, and our speakers shown their competence, even on subjects such as kernel
or packaging.
We didn't want to annoy the participants and we didn't annoy them.
We distributed some gadgets and received requests for information.
The parallel session, limited to packaging, saw the presence, at least, of
a dozen people who followed Gianluca with great interest.
What makes us sure that we followed the right way, in addition to
presentations very well done and the presence of people who stayed in our
classrooms, is due to the requests received after event.
In particular we received two requests: the first is a contact request for
future events into schools made by a spectator who also requested information
about joining the Ambassador group (of course, we'll verify the competence and
the interest, the contact is held by Deneb) and the second is the request,
made by a couple of participants, to receive all the slides, which I'm
preparing.
I believe that our event could be considered a good result.
Event Timeline:
- Introduction by Marina Latini (Deneb [2])
Introduction to the Fedora Project, groups and activities of the day.
- Packaging by Gianluca Sforna (Giallu [3])
The Packaging group and development rules.
- Websites by Robert Mayr (Robyduck [4])
The Websites group and the workflow.
- Infrastructure by Andrea Veri (Averi [5])
The Infrastructure team and the administration software.
- Fedora Kernel by Federico Vaga (volunteer)
The Kernel compilation and the Fedora way ok making.

- Localisation by Mario Santagiuliana (Marionline [6])
