I know this is an old discussion, but I have a new example.
At OLF Ben was helping this guy install F13 on this old laptop, so while
it was installing he set up a vm on his macbook and was playing around
with it. As we got to talking I mentioned that he could get help on IRC
and he wanted some help setting that up. Here is where the problem
I was showing him how to do IRC with irssi, its the only client I really
know how to use well enough to show anyone (I tried xchat but couldnt
remember where everything was) and I think this was just way too much
for him. He was following along perfectly until we had to start the nick
I don't know if this story is going to change any policy or anyone's
mind on the matter, but I really wish we would change this policy to
make it easier on new (even brand new) users and on ambassadors.

Hey logistics, marketing, ambassadors, college ambassadors. The Olin College
FAD is ON! I'd like to open this invitation to the the wider Fedora
community. New to the Fedora community, java-devel is about the only list I
can spam, so kindly send this to relevant parties. You have my permission to
modify as appropriate.
On the Boston side, I would especially like to reach other colleges (MIT?
BU? BC? Wellesley? North-Eastern? etc.) Part of those communities or know
someone who is, tell me about it!
And always, would love to hear thoughts, praise, complaints, hopes and

We're holding a Hackathon / Fedora Activity Day at Olin College in Needham,
Etherpad is open source software for teams to type together on the same
Join a team of students, alumni, and Fedora Linux hackers as we improve
Etherpad for ourselves and the world!
Cut to the chase: *http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad_FAD*
== What is EtherPad? ==
Etherpad is pretty much the pinnacle of online, collaborative text editing.
If you're not familiar with EtherPad, take a look at this
== Backstory ==
EtherPad was acquired by Google in 2008 and the code was open-sourced
(yay!). Buuut the EtherPad code-base isn't exactly in a packageable state,
as demonstrated by SDZ, here <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad>. (SDZ
is an Olin student!)
Thus we plan to:
* Repackage EtherPad in a consistent, portable way, more best-practice form
* Create compliant, Fedora packages for EtherPad
* Setup EtherPad instance on Fedora Infrastructure (infrastructure managers,
sorry, quietly stop choking and shoot me an email so I can explain Fud +
EtherPad = awesome and discuss how to go about that)
* Teach non-Propeller-heads about OSS development and the technologies used
== When? ==
** *Friday, October 8th - Saturday, October 9th* **
(and maybe early Sunday if we get some of the no-sleep crowd).
Dinner on Friday. Dinner and lunch Saturday.
Can attend in person? Remotely join us! See the

Andy, Sebastian and I are Olin College students and long-time linux users,
and total EtherPad fanboy. We would love to give back to all three of these
communities and help people get involved in open source software.
Finally, there is generally just a lot of cool technical stuff inside
EtherPad? Server-side-JS? Scala? Comet? Collaborative diffing? Web-service
architecture? Your totally welcome to come and geek out on these topics, and
maybe learn a thing or two about how EtherPad works.
Check us out on the wiki and twitter:

P.S. You've probably never heard of Olin College, but you should
totally look at the crazy higher-ed experiment we're running:

as far as you all remember, I promised to support the organizer from
FUDCon in Switzerland.
Right now, I can announce, that I was able to promise you -as attendee-
a special topic.
For those who stay until monday I can organise a sightseeing at CERN
the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. A friend of mine which
is a Doctor in Physics works at the ATLAS Project and will do a
guided tour for us. We can also have a lok (unfortunatly not a touch) in
their computing cluster. Mostly the CERN runs which runs Scintific
If you're interested let me know!
I'm leaving the Ambassador Group.
To be honest, I havn't fulfilled any of the duties of an Ambassador,
as they are known\used today.
The reasons are many and varied, but irrelevant.
I see no benefit to Fedora in hanging around to be a statistic.
If circumstances change in the future, I may be looking for a mentor.
Can someone point me the correct method of this, FAS etc.
Friend of Fedora
I will have a short presentation in Software Freedom Day , held by HanoiLUG,
18th of September, in Hanoi.
I am thinking to introduce Fedora community all over the world and how to build
the Fedora local community in Hanoi and Vietnam.
Any ideas and suggestions for the content of my presentation are highly appreciated .
