Re: [Ambassadors] couple of questions
by Ben Williams
"I got started with Fedora, and I would love to become an
ambassador. I completely understand the process of becoming an
ambassador, so around 6 months ago or so I attempted to start the
process by getting a mentor. I was very upset in that I found it
impossible to find one. I could understand that if I was new and
excited about Linux I might be underqualified and trying to get
involved in everything before understanding the work involved, and
therefore no mentors would want to mentor me, however I feel I have
made a clear contribution to both Ubuntu and Fedora among others, and
have for over a year. I'm not saying, either, that I would make the
cut and become an ambassador, but I wish it was easier to find a
mentor so I could start the process. With all of this being said, I
can sum it up in one request:
I would like to become an ambassador for the Fedora linux
distribution. If anyone would be willing to mentor me, I would very
much appreciate it.:-)
Thanks, guys, for everything that you do.
Bryan"
As a Mentor for North America I will gladly mentor you please see the following urls:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Joining_Ambassadors
now i had several people contact me about being a mentor then I would email and I would never hear from them again
please contact me through the email on the mentor page.

EMEA F13 media order revisited
by Christoph Wickert
Hello world,
in the last meeting the EMEA ambassadors decided to order 6000 F13
media:
2000 GNOME live i686
2000 Install DVD i386
2000 Install DVD x86_64
I just talked to Jörg and it seems that this *way is too much, even with
Africa who might need more media as there only is slow internet. Jörg
just told me that last year we had 880 media each live and install, this
means 1760 in total.
Suggestion:
1500 GNOME Live i686
1000 DVDs i386
1000 DVDx x86_64
----
3500 media, already twice as much as last year! Enough even if we give a
large amount to Africa.
According to the numbers Sascha gave us in the last meeting this should
be around 3200 US $ I guess. Of course the value for money is not as
good as on the big order but I doubt we really can spend all the media
throughout the F13 cycle and if we order less, we still have money for
the spins.
1000 KDE Live i686
500 LXDE Live i686
500 Xfce Live i686
----
2000 Spin media, should be enough and hopefully affordable within the
current budget.
What do you people think of these numbers? Do they sound reasonable?
I asked Sascha to get mire quotes for different numbers (500, 1000,
1500) from the media company and I think we need to revisit this topic
in the next EMEA ambassadors meeting because we should not waste our
money for media we will never be able to spend. If we spend so much
money, we should at least spend it on more variety.

Christoph

FLISoL Venezuela 2010
by María Leandro
Hello to all.
Past April, 24 we held in 14 Venezuelan cities the "Festival Latinoamericano
de Instalación de Software Libre - FLISoL Venezuela 2010", this event is
held in all latinamerica the same day for the past 5 years and has become
one of the most important events in our region, because joins all the
countries in a single party for software freedom spread.
In Venezuela, I was on the national organization helping not only Caracas
(city that I organize) but also the 14 cities who join to this party. Thanks
to FAmSCo help we could buy new banners (onethat I will keep for 7 events
that I have in the next 3 months) and the other will be given to the rest of
the Venezuela community to help them to spread Fedora. Also we where able to
buy badges, stickers (vinyl) and dvd to gift Fedora isos. Was great to see
people thankfull receiving this gestures.
In Caracas, we had a Fedora team with 4 new members, who where really the
soul of the Fedora booth. This girlsand guys make everyone wear a Fedora
tattoo and spread that Fedora is a community of profetionals and friends.
Also, they give some demostrations of how to play and use Fedora in a
regular environment, showing the attenders that Fedora is a true option to
change their OS.
Caracas had an estimated attendance of +2000 (2283) and if we add the rest
of the cities, the number goes up to 5000. We also had +60 new users who
walk out using fedora, so I guess was our best flisol.
Here you can find the flisol official photos:

and a special group of fedora latam people working at flisol:

Thank you so much to the people who encourage us and helps us to make of
this, our best event ever.
Thank you.

Re: [Ambassadors] Questions asked at event booths
by Ben Williams
Looks like the page is coming along fine
IMHO yes we can mention rpmfusion but make sure you give the spill on
why things like codecs etc are not in fedora, if in doubt send them to

Ambassadors Cert Exam?
by Jeff Sandys
Should we have an Ambassadors Certification Examination?
I enjoyed working the fedora table at LinuxFest NorthWest. Because I am familiar with many of the packages available in fedora I was able to point out special applications that would meet user's needs. When a user asked about ATI graphics issues I replied I couldn't answer. But when a user carrying an imac (comparing it to colorful OLPCs) asked if we had a powerPC version, I answered incorrectly, saying no.
It would be useful to have a quiz or list of frequent and infrequent questions so that we could be better ambassadors. I don't think the quiz should be mandatory for being an ambassador, just using the subject line to create a dialog.
Thanks,
Jeff Sandys
