FOSDEM
by Gent Thaçi
Hi Guys,
I am arriving at Brussels Airport at 19:15pm (Austrian Airlines 778), will
take the train and get off at Brussels Central station. Anyone that time? Or
that can wait me because it's my first time and I don't know the city?

RE : Remarque sur la page d'accueil du site
by Kévin Raymond

Amicalement,

[fosdem] we have our boot!
by Bert Desmet
Hi,
Your request for a stand of Fedora Project at FOSDEM 2010 has been accepted,
and we will put the following at your disposal:
- on Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00,
- 2 table(s) of 2 meter width and 1 meter depth, 2 seats per table,
- most probably in the H building (subject to change),
- best-effort wireless interenet and one(!) type C/E power plug.
We provide only one power plug per stand, but you can hook up several
multi-socket power chords. Because we can not provide those for every stand,
we must ask you to bring your own multi-socket power chords.
To make the stands look more professional, we would also like to ask you to
bring a table cloth that covers the table and the front of it. The front
side is a very good place to put your logo and name in large on, this will
increase your visibility.
We will stick A4 sheets with your project name on the tables, so you'll know
where to install stuff. The best time to build up your stands in the H
building is around 09:00. From 09:30-10:00 the people start to rush in,
heading for the opening talks. In the AW building, things are typically more
quiet until the opening talks are finished, which is around 12:00.
With kind regards,
The FOSDEM stand organizers.

**About this DevRoom**
Configuration Management is exciting! It is. Really. There is huge
interest in automation, configuration management and especially PAAS,
SAAS, IAAS and the cloud generally. We're seeking people who are
working the field, interested in the field, or just interested in
learning more about how to make their lives easier with automation and
configuration management.
We invite you to submit talks on these topics:
* Configuration Management theory principles
* Configuration Management tools - real world use cases
* Tools, techniques and case studies
* Configuration Management and the Cloud
* Configuration Management, Compliance and Security
NOTE: Puppet Labs is helping organise this room but we're looking for
talks on more than Puppet! We're looking for CFengine, Chef, bcfg2,
AutomateIT, and the myriad of other tools out there.
** Your submission must include:**
* Your name
* The title of your talk
* A short abstract of one to two paragraphs (150 words, max.)
* A short biography
* Links to related websites/blogs etc.
Send the abstracts to:
fosdem2011(a)puppetlabs.com
Presentations are to be formal and not longer than 30 minutes, plus 15
extra for questions (45 in total). Panels with more than one speaker are
something we're also seeking, a "My configuration management tools is
the awesomest and I'll debate that!" is possible, as are shorter
presentations of 20 minutes. We're also exploring some un-conference
style presentations too.
The deadline for submissions is January 8th 2011 December 2010. If your
proposal has been accepted, you will be informed by email by January
10th 2011.
Please feel free to forward this call for abstracts and papers to
relevant lists, people and sites. We're looking forward to seeing lots
of interested folks, have lots of spirited presentations, debates,
discussion and ... quite possibly drinking.

[APAC] Event report: Fedora 14 Talk and media distribution, Old Dhaka, Bangladesh.
by mak
Dear All, (sorry for cross posting)
It's been almost a year, since I've attended my last Fedora event on 25th
February, 2010. it was Asian University (Dhaka) Fedora 12 Release
party<http://maktrix.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/asian-university-dhaka-fedora-12-...>.
Couldn't manage to put together my efforts and stream of thoughts to arrange
one – and I was unhappy. But, the "Fedora 14 talk and Media Distribution"
event overwhelmed me with joy. I did literally jump and screamed after the
event. I never thought there will be a Fedora event this big in a short
notice in my neighborhood. Well the scale of being big might differ in EMEA
or NA; but for me in Bangladesh it's huge.
It’s only a part of the crowd. The university authority did not let enter
more 1000 students for safety restriction of the hall. If I knew that the
crowd shall turn out this big, I would have asked them to arrange open air
in their football field.
I was able to produce 1000 Fedora 14 DVD (thanks FAmSCo) and distributed 800
of them in this event. Also give away T-shirts - only 300 of them. I didn’t
distribute them in the event. Volunteer took some and rest was handed over
to the faculty members for later distribution only to avoid seeing unhappy
faces of those who might not get one. They are going to have a pop quiz next
week to select and distribute T-shirts. Pop quiz will be based on my talk
:). Wow - I never even imagined.
The Vice Chancellor of the university was present and inspired the crowd to
use Free and Open source software and praised a lot for their initiative to
use Fedora. He announced they might start migrating to Fedora, once they are
sure with the support is available.
After my talk I started the distribution, by giving a DVD to the Vice
Chancellor; student-volunteer form the university distributed within the
hall and to the students where were waiting outside of the hall for two
hours.
I tried to give away few T-shirts within the QA session, to those who asked
questions. The student volunteer helped me a lot. Without them it wouldn't
have been possible to organize a successful event. Also, my fellow
ambassador Rejaul Islam <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Rejaul> was
there from morning till dawn with me. I had to drop the idea to treat the
crowd with snacks and drinks; instead few of the volunteers were treated.
