So the spins are not Fedora?
All that remains of the definition is "alternative version". There is a
default and thus there are alternative versions, but that hardly
qualifies as a definition. The terms "spin" and "live media" are used
synonymous all over the Fedora websites.

Point taken.

I'd like to ask the board members: How many times have you been to an
event and did booth service there?
When we distribute Fedora on an event, the FAQ are:
* "What is this media?"
* "Why is this media different from the others?"
* "What desktop is on this media?"
* "Does this media contain all desktops?"
* "Can I install KDE from this media too?"
Don't get me wrong: I'm fine with having a default media and I would
choose the desktop(TM) as default because I think it is the most
convenient DE there is.
But I think it must be allowed to name things by their name in certain
contexts in order to distinguish. Having a boot menu that presents you a
choice of "Desktop", "KDE", "Xfce", "LXDE" and "Moblin" will confuse
people. The logical consequence of these listing is that
Take the F14 media artwork [1] for example: The desktop media does not
even the have the word "Gnome" on it. Do you think this helps to avoid
confusion?
The argument for having a default spin is that too many things confuse
people. From my experience I can tell it's not the freedom of choice
that is confusing but the fact that one media is not labeled
appropriately.
Anyway, we will name the desktop spin whatever you want on the multi
desktop Live DVD if it helps to get the board's approval.

Christoph

EMEA Media, All desktop spins on one disc, All full install DVDs on one disc
by Sascha Thomas Spreitzer
Dear freedorians,
we were researching the technical possibility of putting more then one
live cd on one disc.
The proof of concept succeded with these F13 compilations:
http://sspreitzer.fedorapeople.org/torrents/
Zoltan Hoppar and the media company in Munich came up with the idea to
use dual layered DVD discs, which will allow us to store arround 8.5
GB of data.
This is where we are a looking now at the following proposed future
Fedora compilations:
- All desktop spins and related archs on one disc. ( Gnome, KDE, LXDE,
XFCE, Moblin - i686, x86_64 - arround 7GB ) PoC succeded. Tested and
working.
- All installer data and related arch on one disc. ( Full Fedora -
i686, x86_64 - arround 6.5GB ) PoC needed! Blocked due to anaconda
installer options and data paths/devices ( stage2 / repo ).
I requested a pricing quote from the media company in Munich for the
upper scenario,
the result is ~1,000.00 EUR cost savings while producing the same
amount of media ( 5,000 pcs ).
http://sspreitzer.fedorapeople.org/mediaquotes/F14/quote_121010_DE.pdf
(We could even produce 10,000 pcs while staying in the budget for EMEA.)
My questions are:
- Can we solve the blocker on anaconda for the installer compilation?
- Should we start this approach by F14?
- By looking at F15, could we strip a "choose
live-desktop/arch/install" all-in-one dual layer disc?
Thoughts on hardware compatability:
By comment of the media company in Munich: Dual layer DVDs are not
compatible to all dvd players. But to most of them.
( Every DVD player who can play a movie DVD is likely compatible. )
In my humble opinion this is not a blocker for Fedora, which is about
being first and rapid releasing near to cutting edge.

Software Freedom Day in Menoufya University [Egypt]
by Ahmed Araby
Morning/Evening all,
I've attended Software Freedom Day in Menoufya University (Egyptian university), A friend told me about it and I attended, Which is held for the second year.
In brief the session was about:
-MUFIX community (The host) and it's history (They are six years old now),
-Web browsers and it's ancient war
-OpenSource history
-Jspx[1] framework by one of it's authors
-And a wonderful session about using Both sides of the brain (logic and illogic parts) :D
Details can be found in the website[2]
Generally It was a very nice day and the university seems to be supporting them
My final goal that day was to know the people there and get contacts and I've achieved my goal
I've also uploaded some photos[3] for this event and their past events ;)
