This should not be the case. Especially since other distro's (Mandriva:
http://store.mandriva.com/product_info.php?products_id=407) are doing the
same thing. Also other usb sticks are being shipped with content. Scanning
packages is done with lasers just like at a supermarket, it's not a magnetic
field. Mandriva does have a nice feature, if you plug it in windows you can
open firefox and thunderbird with all settings. Might be nice if something
like that can be done.

(08:05:36 PM) inode0:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Meeting:Ambassadors_2009-05-19
(08:05:57 PM) inode0: Ok if we just vote on meeting times and get that
out of the way?
(08:06:14 PM) StabbyMc: hit it.
(08:06:21 PM) inode0: For those not attending last time ...
(08:06:37 PM) inode0: We are setting a new schedule beginning in June
for our meetings
(08:06:52 PM) inode0: If you did *not* vote last meeting please do this time
(08:07:04 PM) inode0: First choice ...
(08:07:23 PM) inode0: (a) Continue as now alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays
(08:07:53 PM) inode0: (b) Meet 1st and 3rd *day on the month (might be
either Tuesday or Thursday)
(08:08:52 PM) inode0: so (b) is that we meet on the same day (we'll
select the day if this option wins)
(08:09:23 PM) inode0: we have a 0-0 tie now - anyone want to break it?
(08:10:03 PM) StabbyMc: I would, but I already voted :-(
(08:10:39 PM) inode0: no one cares?
(08:10:49 PM) inode0: is the question clear?
(08:11:00 PM) inode0: is anyone still here besides me and StabbyMc?
(08:11:02 PM) laubersm: q is clear - it makes no difference to me..

(08:11:45 PM) davdunc: It works for me either way.
(08:11:48 PM) inode0: ok, I guess no one wants to vote who hasn't so
we'll proceed
(08:11:51 PM) Grantbow: either way for me
(08:12:15 PM) inode0: the vote last time suggested it will be the 1st
and 3rd Tuesday going forward then
(08:12:25 PM) inode0: I'll send out an announcement after the meeting
(08:12:40 PM) inode0: Announcements?
(08:12:53 PM) ***ke4qqq is here but late sorry

(08:14:47 PM) djf_jeff: pong
(08:14:57 PM) inode0: your release party has an issue I think
(08:15:07 PM) djf_jeff: not for the moment ;)
(08:15:16 PM) inode0: can it be rescheduled for after the release?
(08:15:37 PM) djf_jeff: it goes well, many people to come, poster
finished (I will post them on mailing list tomorrow)
(08:15:55 PM) inode0: djf_jeff: are you aware the release was pushed
back a week?
(08:15:59 PM) VileGent:

(08:16:26 PM) djf_jeff: hmm, nope, ok, I have a problem now...
(08:16:32 PM) Grantbow: ouch
(08:17:10 PM) inode0: it is safer to leave a couple weeks for
slippage, but it is guesswork
(08:17:45 PM) inode0: djf_jeff: let us know if we can do anything to help
(08:17:57 PM) djf_jeff: yeah, but we had the Red Hat guy in the city
for this date, I guess I will have to do some work
(08:18:16 PM) inode0: which Red Hat guy?
(08:18:47 PM) djf_jeff: Richard Cabana, Eric Schaffer and Michael Lessard
(08:19:01 PM) inode0: pre-release party!
(08:19:15 PM) djf_jeff: hehe
(08:19:28 PM) inode0: I have some F10 media for you :)
(08:19:41 PM) StabbyMc: djf_jeff: are they from the RH Toronto office?
(08:20:07 PM) djf_jeff: I will try to push the date, I am sure I will
be able to do so
(08:20:11 PM) djf_jeff: Montreal Office
(08:20:26 PM) inode0: Other events?
(08:20:37 PM) ***StabbyMc didn't know there was a Montreal office...
(08:21:23 PM) inode0: still no date for FAD F12
(08:22:23 PM) inode0: Were event owners supposed to have some requests
tonight or was that for the next meeting?
(08:22:51 PM) inode0: Budget requests?
(08:22:54 PM) StabbyMc: Do we have any events around June 13 related to SELF?
(08:23:05 PM) inode0: FAD on June 14
(08:23:18 PM) inode0: ke4qqq: want to talk about SELF?
(08:24:03 PM) ***herlo is lurking...but not really here
(08:24:57 PM) ke4qqq: sure
(08:25:02 PM) ke4qqq: SELF is June 13th
(08:25:10 PM) ke4qqq: lots of really cool people are coming and so should you
(08:25:18 PM) ke4qqq: http://southeastlinuxfest.org
(08:25:25 PM) ke4qqq: we have 3 fedora speakers
(08:25:43 PM) ke4qqq: including our own gregdek, stickster_afk, and herlo
(08:26:30 PM) ke4qqq: It's being held in South Carolina
(08:26:40 PM) ke4qqq: so I expect people like StabbyMc will make it :)
(08:26:48 PM) ke4qqq: eof
(08:26:55 PM) ***StabbyMc stabs ke4qqq
(08:26:58 PM) ajamison5579: where is that held exactly?
(08:27:10 PM) StabbyMc: Clemson, South Carolina
(08:27:13 PM) ke4qqq: Clemson University, Clemson, SC
(08:27:17 PM) inode0: VileGent is going?
(08:27:17 PM) ke4qqq: just outside of Greenville
(08:27:23 PM) VileGent: yes
(08:27:31 PM) inode0: so lots of ambassadors
(08:27:47 PM) inode0: is there a FAD sign-up page yet?
(08:28:11 PM) ke4qqq: there is a SELF sign-up page
(08:28:19 PM) ke4qqq: but haven't had a chance to hit the fad sign up page yet
(08:28:22 PM) ke4qqq: speaking of
(08:28:23 PM) VileGent: and i have heard that some people from Va Tech
and NovaLUG are attending
(08:28:24 PM) ke4qqq: there is a docs fad
(08:28:30 PM) ke4qqq: outstanding
(08:28:37 PM) ke4qqq: we REALLY need help getting the word out
(08:28:51 PM) ke4qqq: so if you are in the SE, please start talking about us
(08:28:55 PM) StabbyMc: I've been talking it up at ALE (Atlanta Linux
Enthusiasts), another meeting Thursday.
(08:28:55 PM) ajamison5579: i grew up an hour south of Virginia tech
(08:29:50 PM) inode0: ke4qqq: in case you run off before we do budget
do you need anything for SELF?
(08:30:05 PM) ke4qqq: no
(08:30:08 PM) ke4qqq: we are set for SELF
(08:30:12 PM) ke4qqq: aside from F11 media
(08:30:19 PM) ke4qqq: which is largely out of our control
(08:30:23 PM) inode0: we will cross our fingers on that one
(08:30:33 PM) dthomasdigital: Wish I was set for NMlinuxfest and sure
wish I could make it to SELF
(08:31:42 PM) inode0: Anyone here from the Open Source Bridge?
(08:31:48 PM) ke4qqq: dthomasdigital: an FSF staffer tells me that
Airtran has cheap flights to ATL
(08:34:09 PM) inode0: ok, let's go to budget
(08:34:21 PM) inode0: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/NA/Budget
(08:34:33 PM) inode0: still the lame lack of information as last time :(
(08:34:45 PM) ianweller: woo meeting
(08:34:45 PM) ***ianweller lurks
(08:35:09 PM) inode0: we really need people who spend money to update
this page as details become known about how much we spend
(08:36:02 PM) StabbyMc: What's the word on pens, tats, and case badges?
(08:36:05 PM) inode0: davdunc: dthomasdigital: please fill in final
numbers for your orders although don't worry about the estimates we
have there
(08:36:15 PM) davdunc: thanks.
(08:36:17 PM) davdunc: will do.
(08:36:42 PM) inode0: but modify the description too to reflect what
was actually ordered please
(08:37:20 PM) dthomasdigital: inode0 will there be any money for NM
LinuxFest in November?
(08:37:22 PM) inode0: max send his version of the budget which was,
well, somewhat different as usual
(08:38:02 PM) inode0: dthomasdigital: you'll need to make a specific request
(08:38:36 PM) crossbytes: will case badges be available for order at
https://fedorahosted.org/famnarequests/?
(08:38:44 PM) dthomasdigital: inode0 is there an official form? or contact?
(08:38:59 PM) inode0: we can talk about that I guess
(08:39:08 PM) inode0: crossbytes: I don't know, I doubt it though
(08:39:18 PM) crossbytes: ok
(08:39:22 PM) dthomasdigital: Also I have the exact amount for the
case badges should I list that or should Max?
(08:39:30 PM) inode0: crossbytes: we'll likely include some in
ambassador kits and use them at events
(08:39:59 PM) inode0: dthomasdigital: you should, max keeps separate numbers
(08:40:11 PM) dthomasdigital: inode0 gotcha
(08:40:31 PM) inode0: so there is not a form or anything else about
making requests for funds
(08:40:41 PM) inode0: perhaps there should be
(08:40:55 PM) dthomasdigital: So I just request here?
(08:41:10 PM) inode0: or a wiki page for the event with expenses and
other information we can look at
(08:41:44 PM) dthomasdigital: I will make that request thanks
(08:41:55 PM) inode0: we want to (a) have something to base fund
grants on and (b) have transparency about what we spend the money on
(08:42:33 PM) dthomasdigital: I'm hopping for 500.00 to secure the venue
(08:42:34 PM) ke4qqq: right - and we want to see what you spend
moneyon, so if you have to fly herlo out, and it costs 300 bucks, we
want to see that as a line item.
(08:42:34 PM) inode0: stickster_afk keeps a spreadsheet of sorts on
the wiki for FUDcons, you might look at that
(08:42:54 PM) dthomasdigital: Understood thanks
(08:43:22 PM) inode0: if you want general sponsorship I think that
request can come any time (actually the sooner the better)
(08:44:02 PM) inode0: because we can theoretically handle event
sponsorship out of any quarter's budget
(08:44:21 PM) dthomasdigital: Here is our sponsor Prospectus
http://nmlinuxfest.ning.com/page/sponsor-prospectus
(08:45:08 PM) inode0: we want the crappy booth location at the front
door of the expo hall :)
(08:45:17 PM) ajamison5579: lol
(08:45:29 PM) ke4qqq: lol
(08:45:38 PM) dthomasdigital: I was thinking by the bathrooms lol
(08:45:59 PM) VileGent: near but not right next to please
(08:46:06 PM) dthomasdigital: I was put there at a show once turned
out as the best location.
(08:46:10 PM) inode0: so I personally think sponsoring this would be
great and I will support that
(08:46:41 PM) inode0: it would be nice to be able to say something
about what presence Fedora will have though before doing so
(08:47:08 PM) inode0: who is planning to go? is anyone planning a FAD there?
(08:47:21 PM) inode0: are there any Fedora speakers?
(08:48:29 PM) ***lcafiero sneaks into the back of the room and sits down
(08:48:54 PM) inode0: given that we will be having a good presence at
the event I'm happy to push to fund sponsorship in Q2 even
(08:50:07 PM) dthomasdigital: I'm going to make sure Fedora is well supported
(08:50:11 PM) inode0: lcafiero: we skipped over OSB but I'd like to go
back if you have anything to say about it since it is coming up soon
(08:50:52 PM) dthomasdigital: I've been so very happy with all the
support fedora has given us in New Mexico I'm really hoping to make
some real in roads.
(08:52:33 PM) inode0: well, want to fill us in now on case badges
since that came up?
(08:52:34 PM) lcafiero: inode: nothing to add re OSB.
(08:53:35 PM) dthomasdigital: Case badge proofs should have been here
today but where not, sent for the tracking number
(08:54:14 PM) dthomasdigital: as soon as I see a proof I'll give the
OK for the run, they say that should take about a day then about 3
days to ship
(08:54:38 PM) inode0: but we would expect them before the end of the
month which is great, can get them off to Q2 events
(08:55:43 PM) inode0: davdunc: want to fill us in on the exciting news
about massive tattoo supplies? :)
(08:55:53 PM) davdunc: sure!
(08:56:14 PM) davdunc: I ordered 10,000 of the 1.5 x 1.5 in tattoos
and they look lovely!
(08:56:23 PM) dthomasdigital: Yes before the end of the month for sure
(08:56:35 PM) inode0: those being the regular talk bubble logo?
(08:56:42 PM) davdunc: correct.
(08:57:03 PM) davdunc: I also ordered 5k of the "empowered by Fedora"
at 1.5 x 2 inches.
(08:57:18 PM) davdunc: but they got the order wrong and we have 10k of
those now too.
(08:57:33 PM) davdunc: so 20,000 tattoos to disperse in all.
(08:57:38 PM) lcafiero: woo hoo
(08:57:46 PM) inode0: we will use them without any problem
(08:57:53 PM) davdunc: My wife is wearing one right now.
(08:57:59 PM) dthomasdigital: case badges 5000 units
(08:57:59 PM) inode0: how do you like the empowered by tattoos?
(08:58:20 PM) davdunc: I love it. My wife has rather dark skin and
even the small lettering is easy to read.
(08:58:33 PM) ***inode0 can't wait to see them
(08:58:45 PM) ke4qqq: pics!!! show the world that we now have ink to
display our love for fedora!
(08:59:13 PM) davdunc: the color is good. they left the larger white
field transparent, but they got the logo white on both.
(08:59:16 PM) davdunc: they look great.
(08:59:27 PM) VileGent: davdunc, pics please
(08:59:48 PM) davdunc: k. I will post them to the ambassador list in
a few minutes.
(08:59:48 PM) ***inode0 senses excitement in the room
(08:59:53 PM) davdunc: :-)
(09:00:09 PM) ke4qqq: links of course
(09:00:18 PM) ke4qqq: and to the plant?
(09:00:20 PM) ke4qqq: planet
(09:00:24 PM) davdunc: of course. I am a text-only kind of emailer.
(09:00:29 PM) inode0: so, those can be shipped off to Q2 events as
well ... if you need them soon ping me
(09:00:34 PM) davdunc: yea. better to put them on planet.
(09:00:55 PM) davdunc: they are coming to you UPS inode0
(09:01:12 PM) inode0: right, send me the bill for the shipping too davdunc
(09:01:19 PM) davdunc: kk. will do.
(09:02:16 PM) inode0: StabbyMc: so no word on pens
(09:02:17 PM) Grantbow: This was a fun first meeting, thank you. I
have to run to www.balug.org and give away some F11 Live CDs. Take
care.
(09:02:34 PM) inode0: thanks for coming Grantbow
(09:03:35 PM) lcafiero: See you Grantbow
(09:03:36 PM) inode0: Let's go to Open Floor
(09:03:53 PM) ***inode0 steps away for 3 minutes
(09:04:44 PM) ***lcameron hears crickets
(09:05:11 PM) ***ianweller doesn't and think lcameron should get his
hearing checked
(09:05:13 PM) ***lcafiero wanted to introduce Grantbow since he's the
new addition to the California crew.
(09:05:27 PM) ianweller: lcameron: ;)
(09:05:32 PM) lcafiero: no, ianweller, I hear them too.
(09:05:37 PM) djf_jeff: For my part, Freemedia Canada is going strong,
we have shipped ~15 cd/dvd in the last week and I have "recruited" a
member on the team (I think he was already shipping cd before the
creation of Canada branch)
(09:06:14 PM) djf_jeff: also, I have invited him to join the Canada
Ambassadors to grow our presence, he will think about and come back to
me soon
(09:06:25 PM) lcafiero: Great, djf_jeff
(09:07:30 PM) djf_jeff: do you include a message with the CD you send
with Freemedia?
(09:08:35 PM) VileGent: djf_jeff, i only check to see if they want the re-spin
(09:08:39 PM) djf_jeff: I have made a small sheet saying to join us in
#fedora for a talk and where to get help if needed
(09:10:26 PM) inode0: I think that is nice djf_jeff
(09:10:31 PM) lcafiero: Good addition
(09:11:09 PM) inode0: davdunc: are the tattoos on a roll or individually cut?
(09:11:51 PM) davdunc: individually cut.
(09:11:55 PM) inode0: sweet
(09:12:06 PM) ***inode0 has a suggestion
(09:12:39 PM) inode0: at events you can take a tattoo with you but
only if you have one applied in a visible location at the event
(09:12:51 PM) ke4qqq: davdunc: I desperately need some Sonic
Overnighted - can you set it up as a dell replacement part??
(09:13:16 PM) davdunc: ke4qqq: You have a four-hour contract?
(09:13:18 PM) davdunc: :-D
(09:13:24 PM) ke4qqq: davdunc: several
(09:13:53 PM) davdunc: I'll see what I can do. ;-)
(09:14:08 PM) davdunc: the tattoo FRU!
(09:14:16 PM) ke4qqq: indeed!
(09:14:56 PM) VileGent: lol i would say what i need but i rather not
(09:15:27 PM) VileGent: SG335 shuttle motherboard
(09:16:22 PM) inode0:
http://blog.mrtomlinux.org/index.php?post/HowTo-run-a-successful-IP
(09:16:28 PM) ***davdunc just took a round of pretty crappy pictures.
another minute.
(09:19:00 PM) ***inode0 doesn't want to close the meeting without pictures
(09:19:46 PM) VileGent: but it will be 30 minutes before the planet
updates correct
(09:20:00 PM) dthomasdigital: inode0 about NM Sponsorship can I add
the info on my fedora wiki page or should it be elsewhere?
(09:20:36 PM) inode0: attach it to the event page or create one for it
(09:21:13 PM) dthomasdigital: understood
(09:21:42 PM) inode0: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon/FUDConF11
(09:22:03 PM) inode0: there is an example, and the Budget link might
be a model for us as well
(09:22:57 PM) lcafiero: dthomasdigital, I will probably be going to
NM, but I'd prefer someone closer handle the FAD.
(09:23:02 PM) dthomasdigital: I'll stick to this format so we have
some kind of a template to work off of.
(09:23:15 PM) davdunc: putting one up on flickr now.
(09:23:26 PM) dthomasdigital: lcafiero I'm lining up some folks just for that
(09:23:51 PM) inode0: we should snag smooge if possible
(09:24:32 PM) inode0: I'll talk to him about a FAD when I bump into him next
(09:24:43 PM) dthomasdigital: smooge would be perfect
(09:25:57 PM) lcafiero: dthomasdigital/inode0 great.
(09:26:07 PM) davdunc:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/davdunc/3547797738/ is after 28 hours.
(09:26:46 PM) lcafiero: oooOOOOoooooh!
(09:26:53 PM) lcameron: I want 1
(09:27:19 PM) davdunc: I hope you _all_ get them very soon in your
ambassador kits. :-)
(09:27:22 PM) lcafiero: +1
(09:27:39 PM) lcafiero: They may never make it out of the event box
(09:27:59 PM) ***lcafiero wants to make himself look like a Maori with
tattoos all over his face. :-)
(09:28:16 PM) davdunc: I put all of the 1.5 inch in the mail.
(09:28:23 PM) ke4qqq: to me?
(09:28:32 PM) inode0: lcafiero: you get 50 for that but we need pictures!
(09:28:32 PM) davdunc: ;-) to inode0
(09:28:49 PM) lcafiero: Heh.
(09:29:01 PM) davdunc: the 1.5 inch ones are going to be perfect for the face.
(09:29:34 PM) lcafiero: Someone else did this for a show -- I can't
remember who (and I think it was MacWorld) -- and people were lining
up around the block for them.
(09:30:48 PM) VileGent: i know that firefox has done them
(09:31:17 PM) VileGent: davdunc, they look good especially after that
time length
(09:31:32 PM) ke4qqq: thats awesome davdunc !!!
(09:31:49 PM) davdunc: I think so. My wife is an avid gardener, so
that's after working in the yard and the sun all day today.
(09:32:17 PM) davdunc: I put one up that I applied just now, but I
can't seem to hold still for the camera.
(09:33:25 PM) inode0: I have some old BSD tattoos from many years ago
(09:39:31 PM) inode0: ok, I think we should wrap this up and head back
to #fedora-ambassador
(09:39:38 PM) inode0: thanks for coming everyone
(09:39:44 PM) inode0: 5
(09:39:46 PM) inode0: 4
(09:39:48 PM) inode0: 3
(09:39:49 PM) dthomasdigital: bye all

New FAmNA Meeting Schedule
by inode0
Just wanted to let everyone in FAmNA know the result of our meeting
rescheduling vote this month. While attendance has increased this
quarter which is really great to see it seems that no one was very
happy with the alternating Tuesday and Thursday meetings. The vote was
overwhelmingly in favor of meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each
month beginning in June.
See you all on F11 release day at the usual time in the usual place!
