by Clint Savage
There was an attempt to pass this on to the ambassadors, so I am
forwarding it on.
Cheers,
Clint

Hello everyone,
The release date for Fedora 11 is coming close, so it's time for some
coordination between the Ambassadors and the Marketing group! In this
mail, I'm going to address different points, so everyone has a clear
view of what is going on and how we can effectively split up the tasks.
Also any feedback is of course welcome.
1. In the next couple of days, the Documentation team is going to write
an official Release Announcement for Fedora 11 in English.
2. As soon as this document exists in a final form, it is going to be
translated in a couple of languages, if all goes well German, French,
Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Italian and Arabic. This will be coordinated
by the Documentation team with the aid of the Translation team. These
translated versions should be available a few days before the final
release.
Now with that being done, we need to coordinate around everything else.
Earlier this year, the Marketing group has set up a structure called the
News Distribution Network (NDN) [1], which aims to distribute Fedora
news to the global media. Some Ambassadors from different languages have
joined this effort and will be pushing news to a list of publication [2]
they maintain.
Besides that, there are a number of ways in which we really need the
Ambassadors help:
1. Track all the Fedora news you see on the web and add it to our press
archive page [3], this will help us judge the depth of coverage so that
we can focus our messaging more precisely in the future.
2. At release time, and for a couple of days after that, we need you to
follow the comments on news websites. People will probably have
questions there, or you will have Fedora Myths to bust [4]. As much as
some of us might like to flame people, our official policy is to be as
professional and possible while at the same time making our points clear
and well understood. Making members of the community angry us will prove
unproductive.
3. Blog! You can start right now, get vocal about Fedora! Talk about the
upcoming release and what the time table is. Talk about a feature you
care about. Talk about how we got to 11, but most importantly, just
talk!
If you feel like there is anything to add to this list, then please feel
free to reply and make sure to cross post to fedora-marketing-list as
well. Also, please let everyone know in what capacity you can help so
that we can coordinate efforts amongst everyone. I hope that everyone
has a better understanding of the process now :)

FAmNA Meeting Reminder
by inode0
Just a quick reminder that FAmNA will be meeting tonight in the usual
place at the usual time.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Meeting:Ambassadors_2009-05-07
There are some important topics to discuss this month including budget
for events in Q2, scheduling FAmNA meetings beginning in June, SELF,
new merchandise updates, and more.
I'm going to propose that at tonight's meeting and again at the
meeting on the 3rd Tuesday in May attendees can vote for the new
meeting schedule. Each person only gets one vote even if they attend
both meetings. I'll suggest the following meeting options but feel
free to propose others if you like.
(1) 1st Thursday/3rd Tuesday each month as we have met this quarter on
an experimental basis
(2) 1st and 3rd Tuesday or Thursday each month
We will have everyone state a preference for Tuesday or Thursday and
if (2) wins we'll go with the more popular day.
This is my suggestion but you can veto it at the meeting tonight so
don't be late!
Thanks,
John

2009-05-07 FAMSCO Meeting Summary
by Thomas Canniot
Hello and welcome to this tenth FAMSCO weekly meeting summary.
The latest meeting was hold on May 7th 2009 on #fedora-meeting
Attendees:
Francesco Fugolini
Thomas Canniot
Joerg Simon
Regreted attendees:
Rodrigo Padula
David Nalley
Max Spevack
Susmit Shannigrahi
Francesco announces the agenda...
1) Release Events: local organization and status
2) Release Events: what FAmSCo should do in the next weeks?
3) Release Events: is there any proposal to make to improve it (from
FAmSCo and people who will attend it).
... and asks to take account of Max' questions about Release Events :
(1) When will media be available in different regions?
(2) if the release event will be before media is available, will we
advertise that people should bring USB keys and can get Live USBs or
their own Fedora ISOs? (3) Are ambassadors in various regions starting
to think about the dates/locations of their release parties? How do we
ensure that we have quality events?
Francesco starts by stating that he has invited people on the global
mailing to organize events for the release of Fedora 11. Joerg added
that FAMSCO should have a role of giving the impulse about Release
Events, that Thomas deepened by stating that he can't see FAMSCO's role
about Release Events dealing with concrete things (ordering rooms,
giving presentation, do some marketing, etc.). However, Thomas sees
FAMSCO's role in giving advice on organizing a good Release Event.
Thomas volunteers himself to write mail / blog post about how to
organize a Release Event.
Joerg also reminded everyone that we used to have competition between
Release Events. This was aimed at encouraging people doing good events
and doing good reports. This idea was welcomed.
Franceso adjourned the meeting.

EMEA meeting -- May 06 @ 2000 UTC
by Max Spevack
Our monthly EMEA Ambassadors meeting will be this coming Wednesday, May
6, at 2000 UTC (2200 CEST).
I threw a basic agenda up on the wiki:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2009-05-06
1. Review upcoming events.
2. Discuss needs that folks have (resources, budget, etc)
3. Reminders of any reimbursements that are still due.
4. Any questions about FUDCon Berlin.
5. Open floor.
Also, I'd like to discuss whether or not a greater frequency of meetings
in this region is something people would like, or if Ambassadors feel
like they have the right balance of meetings, access to resources, etc.
that they need right now.

(Event Report) TCF 2009
by Kam Salisbury
The Trenton Computer Festival (TCF) held in New Jersey USA was a moderate sucess from the Fedora Ambassador activity perspective.
Held every April, TCF brings together electronics enthusiasts of all types. This April 25/26, TCF allowed Fedora to be represented with the Philadelphia Linux Users Group (PLUG http://phillylinux.org) and the New Jersey Linux Users Group (NJLUG http://www.njlug.org). Well over 100 people stopped by the exposition tabels to inquire about Fedora or Linux in general.
Thanks,
Kam
