Events in Iran
by Mostafa Daneshvar
Hey Fedorans;
I'm writing this email for two purposes:
1. Asking about possibility of Fedora events in Iran. I've received a
lot of comments for having a FDA in Iran from guys in Persian community.
They are eager to have it for Fedora 11. They've promised to help me.
2. If we can have such events, I ask ambassadors to give me clues and
share with us their valuable experiences.

[froscon-speaker] Call for Papers FrOSCon 2009 (fwd)
by Max Spevack

Subject: [froscon-speaker] Call for Papers FrOSCon 2009
Hi everyone,
although it has been a while since last FrOSCon, I would like to once
again thank you for having made this very successful event possible. The
general feedback and the feedback about the program was once again
overwhelmingly positive.
Meanwhile, preparations for the fourth edition of FrOSCon are well
underway. This year's FrOSCon takes place on August 22nd/23rd 2009.
We thought you might be interested to hear that the Call for Papers has
just started. You can find all information at
http://www.froscon.de/programm/call-for-papers.html (german)
http://www.froscon.de/en/program/call-for-papers.html (english)
You can once again submit talks and workshops through our conference
planning system at http://cfp.froscon.de.
Although we updated the system to the latest version, all account data
has been migrated, so you can just log in with your existing username
and password (or press cancel at the login window and request a new
password).
Please note that in Pentabarf the personal description is unique to a
conference, so when you log in now, you will find these fields empty.
Fill in something along the lines of "copy from last year" and we will
just copy over last year's description.
We would love to see all of you again in August.
Kind regards
David (for the FrOSCon team)

2009-03-19 FAMSCO Meeting Summary
by Thomas Canniot
Hello and welcome to this eighth FAMSCO weekly meeting summary.
The latest meeting was hold on March 19th 2009 on #fedora-ambassadors
Attendees:
Francesco Fugolini
Max Spevack
Joerg Simon
ThomasCanniot
David Nalley
Susmit Shannigrahi
Rodrigo Padula
Regreted attendees:
Francesco starts by announcing the meeting agenda :
1. Region review (tell me who want to start)
2. Tasks review
3. Mentoring proposals (see David mail)
4. Budget
5. t.b.d.
1. Region review (tell me who want to start)
This first topic ran into a deep discussion about how to organize those
Region Reviews. Francesco was in favour of having Regional Leader
talking with FAmSCo in a defined meeting. One problem is that Regional
Leader are already part of FAmSCo (David, Max, Rodrigo). Therefore, Max
suggested to have specific meetings devoted to each region. This would
not limit the discussion with one people (aka
- The Regional Leader) and would help people be closer to FAmSCo as
well. David pointed out that as these meeting needs to be well
organized and planned over several weeks, some discussions have to be
done inside FAmSCo before not to postpone them too long, like the
mentoring discussion. Then Max detailed the action plan to Francesco so
to agree on the communication stuff to achieve these Regional meetings.
David then asserts that one meeting per week would mean 4 regional
meeting in a month and would be vry heavy and time consuming.
The discussion about this topic will continue on FAmSCo list.
2. Tasks review
Francesco is following the release process and will start soon the
Relase Events topic.
Max is doing well with the organization of FUDCON in Berlin in June and
underlines the organizational team is efficient. Max is also helping
FUDCON in LATAM with budget issues.
3. Mentoring proposals (see David mail)
Max reminded that he volunteered to sumarize the FAmSco discussion and
to push this summary to the global ambassadors-list in order to go
implicate people in the discussion. Before, some work still need to be
done by FAmSCo: to ensure that growth is scalable in the new
organization and keep the ambassadors comunity healthy.
4. Budget
NA and EMEA expenses are coming in and being paid out. Max will have to
check with Sankarshan, Susmit, and Harish that things are doing well in
India and Asia. LATAM budget will involved Rodrigo.
Francesco adjourned the meeting

Thank you for your Support.

I am also feeling the same but I also want to have a kick start. This
will, I think, create more awareness among students and some of them
will come up. If we are able to help them then it can have a long
lasting chain effect. The problem I feel here is the experience we
lack.
One head can be done easily. I don't know the barcamp structure. I
googled it and I think it is like getting everyone opinion and
starting the discussion. If you mean this, we will be doing this.

We will make NITDgp LUG the parent LUG and encourage members to follow that too.
>
> 3) How many people are there in the LUG at the moment?
The Details of LUG is not yet announced. There are a bunch of students
trying out fedora after the KGEC installfest. I have mainly involved
all the active members of installfest.
There are 10 people in the core committee at the moment.
There are some more interested candidates and I plan to involve them
too. These include the few Linux users of our college.

We will surely try out all these stuff, but for the time being, I am
concentrating on establishing a stable LUG in our college.
I will do need the community guidance and help but presently, we need
to create users than developers.
We plan to do these stuff after we get sufficient response and users.
> 6) The one who contributes the most gets to be the next head.
Yes this will be done.
>Have a badge for the head.
We are going with certificates.
Thanks for your support and please do always guide us with the work we
need to do. Sorry the late reply. I am facing a lot of problems due to
limited hrs of internet access in my college. I will do try to give my
best.

MSC OSCon2009
by Mohd Izhar Firdaus Ismail
Hi,
There will be a conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 31st May to 3nd June ..
Its a government initiated conference/convention with the goal of
bridging gaps among commercial developers, public sectors, and FOSS
communities in Malaysia.
Approx 600 attendees will be coming to the event ranging from public
sector staffs to local enthusiasts. Local communities, including
Fedora-MY have been invited to be involved.
Their website is still not yet online however.
They are also looking for international figures to be talking in the
event and most probably sponsored by the gov, I've yet to confirm with
them whether we can secure a slot for one speaker from FedoraProject,
if we do, I wonder if Max Spevack or Paul Frields available for the
event ? :) .. among figures who are currently in their ToBeConfirmed
list are Shuttleworth, Matt Olander (FBSD), Antony Baxter (Google),
p/s: fedora-my might need some funding for this .. mainly for FreeMedia ..
will update when get more info .. tq

F10 Live CDs for EMEA
by Max Spevack
EMEA ambassadors,
I'm making another batch of 1000 F10 Live CDs, which will be able to
ship out of Munich at the end of March.
eLiberatica and OpenExpo are high on my list of places that need CDs.
I'll probably give Dimitris some to bring back to Greece with him for
FossComm.
If there are other needs, please update the events page or let me know.
