1. Open Issues
Francesco started by thanking Max for his summary on FAmSCo discussion
about the cleaning of the ambassador's unused accounts and mentoring.
Max stated that now FAmSCo should start making decisions and
implementing policies right after the feedback period on the list.
David then stated that some of the decisions are easy to vote on, like
the inactive/active decision. Others would requiere a bit of work
before being submitted to discussion. Franceso, David and Max then
stated that a line should be drawn under the current process and have
the new process started. JohnRose (inode0) intervened and expressed his
worriness about being allowed to give feedbacks, as he seems that
FAmSCo is rushing towards quick vote on these issues. He was happy to
learn that a couple of week will be left before FAmSCo take a formal
decision.
Joerg insisted then to talk about the filter he suggested, i.e.
"has to be a Contributor to another Sub-Project inside Fedora where a
sponsor is needed" or, "is recommended by a Contributor to another
Sub-Project inside Fedora who will take mentorship for that person" or,
"has contributed to Fedora on a event before" or, "has to provide
measureable, visible contributions before!" or, "has to spend money or
whatever (if a company want to be Ambassador without doing work)".
Francesco admitted that these points are good as basis, whereas Max
expressed some little reserved on some. Francesco then recentered the
discussion on what FAmSCo has to achieve in the next few weeks: take a
decision after the comments are done on the proposal Joerg made. Joerg
then asked if the "purging inactive Accounts" topic can be decided
today and Max wondered if any feedbacks from Infrasdtructure were
needed. To what David made it clear that Infrastructure guys have not
yet decided anything but are thinking about stripping people of all
groups if they have been inactive for a certain length of time. To
which Max answered that we should wait for the Infratructure guys to be
ready on this topic and apply a global FAS account cleaning as they
wish, and wait for Ambassadors accounts to be cleaned at the same time.
However, according to David, the Infrastructure guys encouraged to have
our own Ambassador accounts cleaning, as they don't know at all when
they will be able to handle this issue. Then FAmSCO decided he could
handle its own account cleaning.
Francesco adjourned the meeting.

well if you did all that in 30 minutes and at least there was a small group
of students who understood what you said, then you did a great job :)
cheers!

Open Source Dev talk Follow-up
by Karlie Robinson
On Friday Morning, I presented the Open Source Development process to
the Rochester Institute of Technology Honors Seminar working on the
Math4Team project [1] with FAmNA, Sugar Labs and OLPC.
After gaining insight from GDK, Mel Chua and Dave Nalley, I covered the
following topics (in no particular order):
* Order of operations for question asking - search first, then ask, but
don't be afraid to ask.
* The joy that is IRC and the mailing list
* release early and release often
* Document, Document, Document. Wiki, Mailing list etc, just be sure
it's somewhere searchable.
* And finally, GIT, repos and such.
The rest will come by doing and interacting with the community.
Some may have felt I was throwing them to the wolves, but there's only
so much I can convey in 30 minutes. I did assure the class that no one
would treat them badly because of they might be new.
In fact, Mel Chua was very welcoming while teaching some of the students
IRC basics.

Re: budgets for all regions (was Re: [Ambassadors] NA EventsExpectation Proposal)
by David Anderson
The only reason I bring it up as volunteering for the Florida Linux Show (Orlando) in October as possibly a ticket-taker or other odd-job I can leave a bunch of the pens on the table(s). Don't know, this is the first Linux show in Florida I've been to, heck most of the shows I have been to were more general hosted by VMware or IBM...

EdTech Day follow-up
by Karlie Robinson
Yesterday I attended the 19th annual Educational Technology [1] day at
Ithaca College in Ithaca NY, USA. As you may have guessed by the title,
this show is focused on technologies used in k-12 as well as higher
education.
I was camped out in the Ithaca Free Software Association [2] booth for
the day, so I must extend a hearty thank you to Eric and Marty for their
booth hospitality. I also need to thank Charles Profitt of the
Rochester LUG/Ubuntu NY LoCo for giving me a ride to Ithaca (going green
by way of the carpool). And last but not least, Brian Neil for
volunteering his time to jockey all 320 disc in and out of my printing
and duplicating equipment.
I met with a mix of Students, faculty and staff from numerous schools in
upstate NY (Elmira College, Cornell, Syracuse, University of Rochester,
K-12 from the area Etc). I was also able to meet with community
members. In fact, the rush was more like a crush of people. For
example, we had 300 discs at 9am when the doors opened. At 10:30 we
handed out the last disc. (I saved 20 sugar spins for my talk and I'm
glad I did)
While it's my preferance to keep a notebook handy to record contact info
for the people I meet with, this was darn near impossible. Instead I
relied upon my business card and the few I was able to collect. As of
this writing, I've made contact with those I had cards for and I've had
one email come in.
My presentation of OLPC - What if..? was well attended. While I didn't
get a head count, we made it to standing room only - so I would estimate
40-ish.
Immediately after my presentation I was again, mobbed with questions
about Math4, OLPC and Fedora at the booth. (good stuff eh?)
At about 2pm I was finally able to go visit the other booths and was
stopped in the main hall by David Weil, the chair person for EdTech. He
thanked me for coming on short notice and offered OLPC/Fedora/Sugar Labs
space for next year.
One final note, I was able to promote POSSE a bit so I hope we'll be
able to fill the bootcamp.
Reply with questions.
