I am Kevin Higgins. I grew up in PaloAlto California during the
Silicon Valley growth period. I developeda strong dedication to
computers and computer programming during myyouth. Now I live in
Vancouver, Washington and have been teachingLinux to my daughters and
to individuals who purchase my refurbishedcomputers. I have built my
business, Crossbytes, based on the theorythat everyone should have a
computer and the software available toreach their individual goals. I
have installed Fedora on severalcomputers and have adapted Fedora to
the ASUS EEE laptop computer. My daughter uses the ASUS EEE for all of
her school assignments andnow in her senior year she is planning on
using it in college aswell. My clients range from middle schoolstudents
to senior citizens. Fedora has allowed me to open a wholenew world to
many people. These individuals have not only learned touse Fedora in
their everyday lives they have learned the innerworkings of the system
allowing them to continue growing as computerusers. They enjoy
learning new programs and they rest assured in thesecurity and
stability that Fedora offers them. My goal is to rebuild and
refurbishused computers and put them in the hands of children that
could nototherwise afford them. I am building relationships with
severalschool districts in both Portland and Vancouver to begin a
nominationprocess for deserving students. Each nominated student will
receivea complete computer system from Crossbytes with a custom spin
ofFedora consisting of a Monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, printer
andset up for internet access. All of the computers and printers
comefrom people within the community who have donated them to
Crossbytes.Everyone who has converted to Linuxfrom other operating
systems are impressed with the security and easeof use. I want to
continue educating individuals about Fedora andpromoting Fedora to
everyone who desires to learn. Not one personhas converted back to an
old operation system. They have referredtheir friends and family to
me for Fedora systems and education. The foundation for the Fedora
surge Ihave envisioned has been laid. As I progress with my goals I
foreseethe surge becoming a wave. Linux touches so many different
agegroups in so many different ways that numerous
educationopportunities arise. I am ready for each new adventure
andopportunity as they become available. User: crossbytesName : Kevin

question regarding listing events
by Neville A. Cross
Hello,
I was reading on the wiki, on FedoraEvents [1], about some entries
regardin SFD2008 to be celebrated on different places, like Salvador
(Brazil), Tunis (Tunisia), and Quezon City (Phillipines). Fedora-ni is
supporting the celebration of SFD2008 at Managua [2] (Nicaragua). We
will have a talk on games by Rafael Marquez[3], one of the Fedora
Ambassadors. We will also have fedora installations and distribution
of fedora installation media. I would like to add this event to the
list, as we are promoting fedora in this event. But as a newbie I am
not sure about what are the rules for approving this entry or how to
be sure it qualifies to be listed. There is no one listed as
responsible for this page. Also, it troubles me that I am not sure if
I have to list Nicaragua as part of South America or North America, as
we are right mid way.
Best regards to all,
Neville A. Cross[4]

Fwd: TexLive2008 for Fedora
by A. Mani
TexLive 2008 has a lot of new features including automatic updates.
And now we have some good news for Fedora too.

Hi all,
I'm happy to announce first success to package TeX Live 2008 fully
automatically to RPM. This was possible thanks to the great design
of tlpkg metadata that is very easy parsable. And it is actually a
result of desperate need to package TeX Live in some sensible way in
Fedora.
The RPMs are created by a bash script [1] that resolves a dependency
tree for given set of schemes/collections/packages and generates
package descriptions, filelists and requirements. Then a final spec is
generated from "_main.spec" template.
The script allows either to have each package separately within one
huge spec file which will result in a possibility to install any
package in TeX Live 2008 separately, but with the cost of very high
number of subpackages (~4000+). Another option is to have only schemes
and collections within spec with an assumption that collections won't
conflict. This reduces number of subpackages to ~400.
The generated specs can be seen here [2] for TeX Live to be packaged
solely to schemes and collections and here [3] for one RPM subpackage
for each TeX Live package (+collections and schemes dependent on
them).
Please note that the script is still under development and it doesn't
yet generate %post actions for packages even though the code is mostly
designed but untested (and heavily based on install-tl).
The size-sorted list of RPMs for the collection only install can be
seen in [4].

There are a few minor issues with tl2rpm, but those should be resolvable.
Best
