haskell and promotion !!
by Satish Eerpini
hi everyone ,
i have this small doubt ,
the feature list ( the current one ) of Fedora 10 says that it will have
very good support for Haskell, and this could well be used by us
(ambassadors) for promoting the release in the other communities which are
less familiar with Fedora Linux like Scientists , Engineers , etc ,
i am not sure whether this is the right place for this question but :
what is haskell , and how improved support for it could really help the
acceptance of the entire Distro ( Fedora 10 ) ?? well i have not heard the
word Haskell enough times to even remember the name !!,
Thanks
Satish

Utah Open Source Conference 2008
by Clint Savage
Hi all,
As the organizer of UTOSC 2008, I'm officially asking for help from
Fedora Ambassadors who would like to attend and maintain a booth at
UTOSC 2008. I'm hoping that there are a few who can make the
conference. This year, we've had an amazing 89 presentations
submitted, and will have approximately 50 presentations during the 3
day event. Check out more details as they are released at
http://2008.utosc.com (I should also mention that our fearless leader
has graciously accepted an offer of a keynote speaker).
In addition, we'll be providing a small expo floor (10-15 booths) and
Fedora is one of them! To that end, I know there are funds set aside
for this event and would like to request materials soon, but don't
quite know how to go about it. I figure this is a good as place as
any to start.
Thanks in advance for not beating me to a pulp for not knowing the process :)
Cheers,
Clint

Event Budget September 1 - November 30
by Max Spevack
Hi Ambassadors,
SHORT VERSION OF ANNOUNCEMENT:
If you are organizing an event that takes place in September, October,
or November, and you want budget from FAMSCo, make sure your event is on
the FedoraEvents page by August 1.
LONG VERSION OF ANNOUNCEMENT:
We've had a great first half of 2008, and it's time for us to all start
thinking about the events that are coming up during Q3, which in Red
Hat's timeframe is September 1 - November 30.
As you recall, the process that FAMSCo uses for allocating budget for
events is as follows:
One month before the start of the quarter, all events that are (a)
listed on the FedoraEvents page and (b) have a specific owner on the
FedoraEvents page are allocated budget based on the funds available for
that quarter. Anything not on the FedoraEvents page in time will have
to be considered separately by FAMSCo for budget.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents
So, that means anyone who is planning an event for September, October,
or November needs to get their event on the FedoraEvents page, and have
a sub-page for organization (if necessary) set up by August 1, which is
about 3 weeks from now. My thanks to everyone who already has their
events on there.
We're going to start the Events budget for next quarter at $12,000 USD,
but past experience has shown us that the number will creep up over
time. Therefore, starting at $12,000 USD gives FAMSCo some "buffer
space" for unexpected things that come up.
Please note that FUDCon Brno 2008 has its own separate budget, and
funding that event will not come out of FAMSCo's budget.
In addition to thoe events that FAMSCo funds, FAMSCo also will continue
to set aside money to specifically support local regions in things like
creating swag and producing media.
Thanks for your time and attention. Keep up the great job representing
Fedora!

Chaos Communications Congress 2008: 25C3
by Robert M. Albrecht
Hi,
this years, as every year, the spaceship FairyDust (
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Wp_zelt_mit_rakete.JPG) will arrive in
Berlin / Germany and opens the Chaos Communications Congress (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Communication_Congress).
Chaos Communications Congress is the worlds largest hacking congress,
lasting 4 days around the clock and estimated 4500 people.
Do we want to be present with Fedora ? The call for papers is open too:
http://events.ccc.de/congress/2008/
Projects can apply for a "booth". If will do a booth, we will have to do an
unusal booth, unlike Linuxtag. The average visitor is highly skilled, often
very political, often a bit strange :-)
Fedora Embedded, One Laptop per Child, Hacking Contest, ... something like
that.
If someone has no idea on the congress, some pictures from last year:

tentative schedule for each day, and also with a place for people who
are traveling from out of town to indicate which nights they will need
hotel rooms.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon/FUDConBrno2008
Please continue to sign up if you will attend, and also to add possible
hackfest or presentation topics.
Thanks,
