I will vote for Padula for Famsco
by Alejandro Acosta
Although I identify all of the nominees as excellent collaborators of the
project, my highest vote is going to be for Rodrigo Padula for a seat in the
Famsco.
This isn't only because of the importance that all regions be represented in
the committee, but also because I know the work that Rodrigo has done for
the project and I have myself experienced his commitment and support.
I also know that there are other excellent ambassadors in the region working
hard for our common purpose, but at this time it is my belief that Rodrigo
being at famsco assures continuity to the project of consolidating Fedora in
our region.
Rodrigo is a young man with a lot of tasks and responsibilities but he
always manages things up so he can attend them in an excellent manner.
María in Venezuela, Diego in Colombia, Neville in Nicaragua, Juan in México
and many others in the region we had witnessed this effort very closely, so
I invite you all to vote for Padula so the steps he has taken would lead to
a successful achievement of the started activities.
I recognize that all nominees are excellent persons in our team, this is why
I won't mention everyone of them because it wouldn't be fair to skip one of
them or to mention less merits that they deserve, but I will throw an
exception and say that Larry Cafiero "the free software guy" is also a great
option to represent us. Larry, you've got my vote.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm

Release Events - KML file
by Francesco Ugolini
Hi,
I'm asking all the event owners, if it's possible, to help me saving
time, sending me an email with the following, compiled kml placemark:
Change the DD, MM, YY, TIME, DETAILS and LATITUDE/LONGITUDE with yout own datas.
<Placemark>

When: DD MM YY and TIME
Where:
PLACE
Details: DETAILS

<styleUrl>#fedora</styleUrl>
<Point>
<coordinates>LONGITUDE,LATITUDE,0</coordinates>
</Point>
</Placemark>
I want to thank you all for this. It will give the possibilities to
create a Release Event map to share and to let people know where we
are going to hold such events. (for an example see
fugolini.fedorapeople.org/remap.html).
Regards
Francesco Ugolini
p.s. Two months ago I mad a first draft of that kml file, here the

Re: [Ambassadors] Fedora Ambassador
by Charles Peng
Hi, Joerg,
Your email has been received and I read it carefully just now. Fedora 10's
out, thanks for your hard work.
I am new to Fedora and Linux, I started using Fedora system from Fedora 9,
it means I only use fedora for half an year. Fedora 9 is my first time to
try Linux in the real sense. Fedora 9 is such an excellent linux distro that
I like it so much, that's why I joined in as a Fedora Ambassador, what I
wanted to do this at that time was just to prompt Fedora in China Mainland.
Thanks Bbbush (Yuan Yijun), with his leadership and help, we finally
established our own fedora-cn Forum, I participated, actually, the forum is
currently hosted in my Bluehost account, but, I did only a little.
Although I really like Fedora, and want to introduce it to others, and did
something to reach this goal, but it's ineffective (only little).
I'm new to Fedora (and I didn't major in computer, Linux or IT), how and
what do you think I can do to help build a Chinese fedora community? I will
do what I can do to help prompt Fedora in China.
If you have any suggestions, please kindly tell me, Fedora 10 brings us a
lot of latest Linux features, how can I introduce them to have a try, except
introducing it in my own blog?
Sorry, Joerg, it's neally 00:00 our time, so maybe I will be late to reply
you, it's as eariliest as 8 hours later...

Hi all

Fedora).
I'll provide you the details of distribution ,if you would like to have.
If possible please provide me the resources available so that I can learn &
share it & the saga continues.
Could anybody please provide details regarding Linux user group as we've no

Fedora Ambassador
by Joerg Simon
Hello Huang and Charles,
As you know the Fedora Project is a global community with a common goal.
Divided by EMEA, APAC, NA and LATAM we have already - or try to establish -
regional leadership.
In some Countries or Areas we have local Teams with special local requirements
like the French, Indian or the South American Teams. The Chinese Community
has grown much in the last month and i want to ask you Charles, is there a
chance that you can help us by building a structured local Community in
China?
Another important requirement we have, is that you may help out, as a mentor
for new Contributors from China?
You know by yourself how many Informations you have to consider after joining
the Project and how important it is to point people in the right direction or
introduce them to the right people.
You will get all our support and i have the promise from Paul that you will
get the support from the Project Lead also.
Huang, as you could read we try to improve the structure and quality of the
Fedora Presence in China. You are a Chinese Ambassador and you are located in
Jena, Germany - this is not far away from my hometown Gera. I want invite
you, to work with us as the EMEA liason to the Chinese Community. You are
welcome to the Chemnitzer Linuxtage 2009 [1], which is near to your place,
where we can meet face to face for a talk where you can show us the Chinese
requirements and how we can help China and vice versa. Tell me what you think
about this. Hope to see you soon.
Regards Joerg

Upcoming events and reimbursement guidelines
by Max Spevack
Hi Ambassadors,
I know we are getting close to the beginning of a new quarter, for
events and swag budget.
Several things are already in process -- Fedora 10 CDs in North America,
for example, and some stickers that Ambassadors will be able to give out
at events.
In EMEA, we still have a bunch of tshirts that we made up earlier in the
year, and budget for the upcoming events and Release Parties. In LATAM,
Rodrigo continues to do a wonderful job coordinating the Fedora
presence.
India has its own budget for making Swag, and we have budget set aside
to make sure that our Ambassadors throughout APAC get the support that
they need.
There are two important things that I need everyone to be aware of:
(1) I want to remind folks about our Event Report guidelines and
recommendations.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/ReportingGuidelines
(2) I need to start being more strict regarding reimbursements, because
I have been running into some trouble with Red Hat finance when we do
any transfers of money that are not PayPal. It is very hard (or
sometimes impossible) for me to be reimbursed for these expenses, and
while I'm happy to donate some of my own money to Fedora, you can
imagine that as the go-between for the Fedora community and the Red Hat
budget, I have to be very careful about making sure all my expense
reports are ok, or else I'll get into trouble very quickly with my own
personal finances.
So, here are the reimbursement guidelines that need to be followed.
(a) No matter where you are in the world, we need scans of receipts for
the expenses that you have at the event. If we promise you a budget of
$500 and you spend $500, but only have receipts for $400, then I end up
in an awkward position where I either have to say NO to the last $100,
or to reimburse it out of my own pocket. Please don't put me in that
position.
(b) We can reimburse anyone, anywhere in the world, with PayPal. This
is our preferred method of doing things, by far. It is fast, and it
causes no additional paperwork with Red Hat that can delay things.
(c) In North America, if you cannot take PayPal, it is possible to be
reimbursed with a personal check, but this will take a while.
(d) In any countries using Euros, we try to do all our reimbursements
either through PayPal or to route them through Fedora EMEA e.V.
(e) In India, if you cannot take PayPal, reimbursement requests should
go to Sankarshan, who is the manager of the subset of budget that we
allocate to that region.
(f) In APAC, if you cannot take PayPal, reimbursement requests should go
to Harish, who is the manager of the subset of budget that we allocate
to that region.
(g) In LATAM, if you cannot take PayPal, reimbursement requests should
go to Rodrigo, who is the manager of the subset of budget that we
allocate to that region.
Thanks for your attention and for all your hard work. If there are any
questions, please post them to this thread.
