To: famsco-list(a)redhat.com
Folks,
I think after being involved with the Ambassadors group for a year and
a half, it is time for me to move on to new projects, and me being me,
I would like to turn all of my attention to those new projects, and so
I will have to retire from Famsco.
What is it that I will do?
For starters, I will try to streamline the package review process as
to enable more people to thrash out the bugs faster, and to lower the
entry barrier for them to do that.
>From what I know about the package review so far, this will take a lot
of time and concentration, and I would be lying if I promised to spend
any time at all on the Ambassadors.
Then there is a bunch of other stuff going on that I would like to get
my hands dirty with--One Laptop Per Child is one, and my own art and
photography projects, which I have only been able to pursue
half-heartedly so far.
So here, I am "retiring."
Good luck gentlemen and keep the good work going!
Thank you for all the good times, and for all your commitment.
We will see each other :)
Cheers,
a

swag at FOSDEM
by Max Spevack
For the ambassadors who are doing FOSDEM:
I have packed up several boxes, including:
* several hundred FC6 DVDs (x86, x86_64, ppc)
* a bunch of Fedora tshirts (L and XL)
* a bunch of Fedora pens and stickers
I am either going to have them shipped to FOSDEM or bring them with me on
the plane.
We need to plan to "ask for contributions" for this stuff at the booth, to
help cover some of the costs for the event, and other events in Europe.
So, I'm wondering what we should charge, and once we agree, if someone can
volunteer to print up some papers that have the "suggested donation" on
it:
My first attempt:
Pen or Sticker -- 1 euro
DVD -- 2 euros
Shirt -- 10 euros (is that too much?)
Please offer your feedback.

Issue about multimedia codes while migrating a music school to half Fedora, half Suse.
by Bart De Soete
Hi all,
At this moment, I'm working hard on my current project which is migrating a
music school from MS Windows XP (and for their servers: Windows Server 2003)
to Fedora 6.
However, there were already a few music tutors and staff familiar with
openSUSE. They agreed to migrate for 100% to Linux, but preferred to use
openSUSE.
The migration went well if we speaking about basics, but one of the main
issues are multimedia codecs.
Multimedia is a very important aspect for the clients in that organisation.
I gave them the Helix Banshee-player to play music and fixed the
MP3-support-issue.
However, they also want to be able to play following codecs:
Movieformat: MPEG and likewise formats ??
DVD-format: 1) how to rip dvd's ? 2) how to watch the ripped VOB-files on
hard disk, 'cause they 're standard not supported.
Soundformat: WMA and likewise formats ??
I tried already a few things, but Banshee, Totem and Real-player always are
giving the same error: you need to install a plugin to play this format.
I installed the w32codec-all which should contain Win32 and other binary
codecs, but NO RESULT.
Can someone help me?
Kind regards,

FOSDEM scheduling
by Max Spevack
So, I have some questions about making sure our time at FOSDEM is spent as
well as possible. I'm sending this to ambassadors-list because I don't
want to leave off people who will be at FOSDEM from the list, if I sent
the email separately.
So, my personal schedule:
* Arrive in Brussels Thursday morning after an all night flight. I will
spend the day resting and being a tourist.
* Friday
- Is there a Fedora event happening, or are we all going to meet at the
CentOS/Fedora event?
- Are we going to the "official" beer night?
- I'd like to talk with Chitlesh about the presentation that he and I are
"sharing" on Saturday to make sure we know what we're going to say.
* Saturday and Sunday
- In the booth/devroom
- Dinner after the event for the Fedora folks?
Things that need to be scheduled:
1) Gerold wants to have a general meeting about Fedora. That's something
we can do over dinner one night, perhaps.
2) When is the Fedora/OpenSUSE meeting?
3) I personally want to make time to chat with some of the CentOS folks,
but I'm not worried about finding time for that.

Accomodation during FOSDEM
by Pawel Sadowski
Hi,
I have a great news, as I'm going at FOSDEM :) I have just one problem
right now... Does anybody know a place when I could have an accomodation
from Thursday to Monday? Possibly cheap of course ;)

Short info about Linux Solutions Event (France)
by Armelk (AKServer)
Good afternoon Fedora Community,
the last week we have in France the major event about the Open Source and
Linux (10 000 Visitors).
In this event the major companies are present (RedHat, Novell, Mandriva,
IBM Open Source, Alcove, Bull,...) and in parallel a lot of free
associations or development are present to (Fedora, Debian, Unbutu,
KDE,...)
During this event a lot of French Fedora Ambassadors are present and the
Fedora Users are present to. We have a lot of very interesting discussions
about the future of Fedora, issues, requests, .... It's very interesting
time for the Fedora French community to share the same knowledge and the
same passion.
In the Linux community, we have a very good image and Fedora is a serious
distribution. But the French Ambassador Team doesn't play in the same
division of Unbutu, Debian,... WHY ?
No real support from the Fedora US, we waiting the Fedora DVD and Fedora
T-Shirt. Special thank to RedHat EMA, Frantz Meyer, William Hoffman, for
100 Fedora Core 6 DVD.
This is the second time we have the same issue with the Famsco, lot of
promise but nothing in the acts. The French ambassadors are really
despites.
I cross the fingers for the next event WE have a VERY STRONG SUPPORT from
the Famsco side, for your info, in France during the spring we have a lot
of local events (Install Party, Linux Day,...) and the next major event
for you is the Fosdem/Fudcon and I 'sorry I don't participate at this
event.
Have a nice day.
