[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Getting Fedora ISO images before release
by Pawel Sadowski
Hi,
I have a question in connection with upcoming Fedora Core Open Days.
It'll be unpossible to send us Fedora DVDs with the new FC5. Hence my
question: will it possible to download Fedora Core 5 before the official
release, I mean 16-17 march. We would burn it on our owns and could hand
out during FCOD. Maybe it could be possible to give us acccess to some
server which we could download the new Fedora from?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Marketing call to action.
by Robert 'Bob' Jensen
Hi All,
Sorry I am cross posting this between the marketing list and ambassadors
list. Please reply on the marketing list if you would.
I am of the opinion that the marketing project has been allowed to die
and be carelessly replaced by the Ambassadors project that was born from
the marketing project.
I see that we can do things several ways. We can continue on ignoring
the Fedora community posting requests for input to the private
ambassadors list that a small number will ever see or we can be sure to
become active in the marketing list involving the community as a whole
in how Fedora is marketed.
Why have the private list?
The privacy of the Ambassadors list has a purpose and should be
maintained in my opinion. One of the things it was designed to do is
help protect the limited advertising resources of the Foundation by
preventing the pilfering of media and other goodies like t-shirts.
However much of the "noise" on this list in the past could have been
better with community input from the marketing list.
What can the marketing list bring that the ambassadors can not?
The marketing list can bring greater visibility from the community by
being a public sounding board for ideas. Many of these ideas can be
hashed out in public, refined in private and still have the "splash"
that may be desired. I would urge all ambassadors to be part of the
greater marketing list and also to avoid cross posting of information
between the lists unless it is absolutely needed.
Fedora is a community driven project, in fact community may very well be
the most important part of Fedora. If the Ambassadors are to take over
all the marketing in private we are in my opinion destined for failure.
We will have removed the community from the drivers seat and made it a
second class passenger.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] irc support for upcoming fc5 release
by Rudolf Kastl
Hello List!
As the new fc5 release will come out next week i am pretty sure that
irc support questions will reach its peaks on the releaseday to the
end of the upcoming weekend, so i decided to take the next week off
work and will be (as earlier when i was less involved) available for
support on irc with a guess rate of around 12 hours/day until the end
of the weekend after the upcoming fc5 release to support and
channelize bug reports with proper debug infos towards bugzilla.
In my eyes "presence" and "help" is a very good marketing factor when
it comes especially to new but generally computer experienced end
users. Mouth to mouth propaganda is the most effective advertizing you
can get in my eyes. Hence why i report this to this list at all.
>From my personal experience most users that survive the first few
weeks will stay atleast for a while with what they get since we all
know fedora is a really sweet desktop product.
I know there are various people offering good help on the irc support
channel but i ask myself if it would help to "organize" that more.
Like with a "voluntarys schedule".
Whats your opinion about that?
regards,
Rudolf Kastl

Owners: GeroldKassube, FlorianBrand
Help wanted and needed
GeroldKa: we don't have the booth really approved by Linuxtag, and
I'm not really sure; we should attend
lxmaier: tchung: linuxtag is putting us under pressure to make sure
red hat pays up. we are working to some funding from rhat. and also i
have a contact to a large corporation, hope they will throw us a chunk
of money too
lxmaier: There is some good new though: I have a tentative okay for
holding the FUDCon at the Heinrich Heine University of
Duesseldorf--which leaves us with more options, shall LinuxTag decide
to be uncooperative.
GeroldKa: for me it's very difficult to have the contact to Linuxtag,
because they don't know me and they want to see money from Red Hat.
and I belive if they don't see money from Red Hat they'll say "you're
not a free project."
gregdek_home: We need to make a call. And it sounds like LinuxTag is
going to be an Ubuntu love fest anyway. Would we rather try to put on
a Fedora-only event?
ke4qqq: typically in the US when con organizers behave badly like
that forking the event normally takes care of things.
gregdek_home: We should not have our event on the same date though.
We don't want to make the community choose--but we do want our own
event, our own way, and I don't think we should submit to being
blackmailed.
GeroldKa: debian is also not at Linuxtag, and opensuse will also not
be registered till today. They have invited 50 open source projects,
but not OpenSuse, Novell, Debian, Fedora, Red Hat
1.10
May 15-16, 2006 LinuxWorld Italy 2006 Milan, Italy - LinuxWorld Italy

Andrea has contacted the organization of the event. They moved to a
sponsorized event format. I have prices for that if anybody is
interested.
FrancescoUgolini: i've talk with maurizio, i don't know some of
specifics, i've only started to talk about the
problem, but we are discussing about this event. i will tell about
this event in the m-list in a few days
lxmaier: we are finished with the events for the next 90 days
item 2

update
item 4
Video contest
Owner: AlexMaier
Shortly after FC5 release: Announce and conduct a short video contest.
What we need to figure out:
- Format (currently OGG, all agree?)
- Max file size (currently 10M, all agree?)
- Submission guidelines (AlexMaier needs to draft)
- Prize (no idea, but needs to be spiffy and not too expensive)
lxmaier: i have a half-finished draft i need to finish and submit to the list.
A discussion about movie requirements was held--to be continued on the list
item 5
Schwag pipeline and a Standard Ambassadors Survival Kit
Owner: GregDeKoenigsberg
End of March 2006: Need to make sure that the schwag pipeline is
functional. This is separate from the actual stuff we send; this is
just making sure that the stuff we send actually gets to the places it
needs to go. We need a standard "kit" for all Ambassadors; DVDs,
promotional materials, and schwag
gregdek_home stepped out
item 6
Standard design elements for all Fedora pages
Owner: AlexMaier
April 1, 2006: Need to create a set of design elements such as
backgrounds, icons, CSS style sheets, etc for use across all
Fedora-affilliated pages to improve the brand identity
lxmaier: i have it all almost done. we will soon have photoshop files
for a set of unified icons and buttons and backgrounds and such for
use on all fedora pages. we will edit them and store on our site for
download as pngs or so. we also plan to create a suggested css style
sheet.
BobJensen: what does this have to do with Ambassadors?
lxmaier: it has to do with ambassadors who run fedora pages on their
own, soon they will be able to make their pages look like fedora
BobJensen: shouldn't such a project be addressed by the marketing
list for input?
lxmaier: okay, we'll move this to the list
lxmaier: we have covered all topics for which the owners were present.
the meeting is officially adjourned at 18:05:48

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Attachments to the list
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
Its great to see the flurry of new activity in the list and
contributions but if you are collecting feedback or presenting any
material to the list, dont send in attachments. It would be good to
upload them in your personal space in any website or within the Fedora
project wiki and then drop in a link to the list. Its a good idea not to
fill in people's mail boxes with huge attachments and it would generally
be better for quick feedback to send in links instead. Thanks.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Vrtual Meet- A thought!
by puneet batura
Hi all,
I just wanted to have u r valuable feedback on a thought regarding:
Since we all are associated with Linux Users Group in one way or the other
hence we can have local LUGS meeting scheduled on the IRCs ( thats what i
have named as virtual meet!) and can invite other countries fedora
ambassadors to those virtual meets to spread Fedora there like a guest
speaker. So everytime there's a new fedora ambassador(key attraction)
joining in to give his/her valuable views . I think that will make LUGS more
functional and we can reach more and more people with the word FEDORA at
large..
Waiting for your valuable feedbacks.....

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Live : promotional material
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
Following the promotional material on the livecd, and refering to a
previous mailing discussion, we decided to add promotional material of
Fedora on the desktop of the fedora live cd (beta)
We, DavidNalley and I decided to work on 2 items:
item 1 : videos
DavidNalley will come with some updates soon.
item 2 : select appropriate presentations/handouts to display on the
livecd and the kadischi impress document.
concerning this part, Ive chosen the handouts in french and english
as well as greg's linuxasia presentation. by the way, that
presentation is great :) gregdek +1
I was thinking about to add only the presentations made on 2006 ! what
do you think knowing the fact that its a FC5 livecd?
If translators can translate the handouts in other languages it would
be great too :)
Too many materials would burst a 700mb CD :( So we must choose the
appropriate one.
If I missed some important materials, do point them to me because I
would that the livecd might be helpful to any ambassador during their
conference or events/shows.
here is a screenshot of how it will be:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/29842792@N00/108925615/
but as you can see the index.html file is not so pretty, im calling
for "visual" enhancements :)
this index.html will contain links of videos, handouts and
presentations (in pdf) as you can see .
if anyone wants share an enhanced index.html with more relevant
contents, she/he is welcome. (ive attached my lame index.html to this
mail)
Im looking forward to upload another livecd by tomorrow night (im not
promising anything). an english version this times :) I can see many
will smile :)
Yes, there are some updates compared to the first beta, I don't know
whether you tried it or not.
Chitlesh GOORAH
ps: im not uploading my fedora approuved logo. I think you do have one
already :)
