[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Talk at BLUG
by Tejas Dinkar
Hey,
Someone volunteered me to speak at my LUG (the Bangalore Linux Users
Group), today, and the talk will be in another few hours.
I'll of course make my slides available as soon as the talk is over.
This is a different kinda talk than those on the fp.o, because I have 15
mins on `Why FC5 changes the entropy of the Universe`. (because I was so
exited about FC5 when it released).
However, in my talk, I'm also required to give a few reasons I DON'T
like FC5, so there will be a slide called "Things in FC5 that annoy the
hell out of me".
Because of the above slide, my talk may not necessarily be given as a
"Fedora Ambassador", but just as a general enthusiast.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] FOSS.NITC Report
by Kushal Das
Hi, here is my report on FOSS.NITC event.
FOSS.NITC was held on 18-19 March in Calicut, Kerala (India). This is mainly a
student based event, where they meet with industry people. Students from NIT
Calicut & other local engineering colleges were there.
It was nice to see that NIT Calicut's computer Lab is almost completely based
on Fedora (FC4). The same thing is there in other colleges too. So most of
the students are very much familiar with Fedora :)
My BoF session was mainly attended by students of 1st & 2nd year. They had
lots questions about Fedora. They never previously used yum. I talked about
FC5 features.
One commonly asked question was how to upgrade from FC4 to FC5 (through DVD)
as I was distributing FC4 DVDs.
In the event some people were talking about KDE in Fedora (they don't like the
way it is being packaged), they liked to hear "moving KDE packages into the
Fedora Extras repository". Fedora livecd also rocks.
Some girls were complaining about "No G size tshirts".
The event went good.
Regards,
Kushal

See, here is where you missed it... The marketing department IS a group
of volunteers, and obviously, each person will have a different reason
for being part of the project.
On the whole, the marketing teams goal is clear: We need to give fedora
to as many people as possible. The key word here is *give*. We do not
ask any money for it, so in this respect, we aren't truly marketing.
I think the way Fedora's Marketing is this...
We try to make sure that Fedora is in the hands of as many people as
possible. After that, we are sure that the product will take care of
itself, so to speak.
However, there is another major difference. We also try to get other
people to actively contribute...
If you see the last slide of most of the talks on Fedora, it will be on
`How can I contribute back to the project`. As a coder, or as an
ambassador, or to write documentation, each is an important part.
So in the true sense, we aren't marketers, we are enthusiasts. However,
as you say, yes, we must have a goal... And our goal is to promote free
software, until the common man becomes more aware of it.
To Promote Free software in General, and Fedora in particular
We aim to remove the Fear, Uncertainty and Doubts that certain
proprietary vendors have created against the Free and Open Source World.
The above two are the goals of the Marketing initiative IMO.
The method we go about doing this is many
1) Speak at events world wide
2) Send DVDs to people who ask
3) Have install fests
4) Spread fedora on a more personal basis, to your friends
I think that above covers it. Please CC the list when replying, I know
I'm not the only guy with an opinion

Well, sort of.
We would really love to see more free software in the market. However,
(at least I) am not particularly fanatic about Fedora, I would really
like to see free software (be it Fedora, SuSE, FreeBSD, RHEL) dominating
the market.
Remember, that no matter which free software wins, all the others still
win.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Just wanted to introduce myself.
by CyberSpy
Greetings,
Just wanted to take a minute to say hello to everyone and let you all know
how excited I am to be an active participant in this project. I've been
using Fedora since Core 1 and some of you already know me from IRC. I plan
to contribute in every area that I can, so please, feel free to mail me with
anything you may need me to help with. I'll be spreading the word of Fedora
in the RTP and surrounding areas of North Carolina, USA and in Phila PA,
USA. In conjunction with the self gratification I'll get by promoting what I
feel to be an extremely viable desktop alternative, I hope to gain some
terrific new friends here.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Re: Note for a Fedora Project marketing person
by Alex
Dear Chris,
I am copying Fedora Marketing and Fedora Ambassadors on my response,
so they can all chime in.
Fedora is not a company, and not a commercial distribution. We are a
community project, in part sponsored by Red Hat. We are not affiliated
with Novell.
I do not think we will have the money to pay for the participation in
the event your friend is organizing, but we certainly will be glad to
help out with content anyway.
If you can think of any form of cooperation that will benefit both
parties, please get in touch with me again.
Thank you,
Alex Maier

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] About being an ambassador!
by mosp
Hi!
I am writing because I am not sure if its an good idea for me to be an
ambassador anymore. I have started an education and have almost no time
for anything else. I havent been able to attend any meetings lately
because of my studies. Either I am in school or I am sleeping.
I still promote Fedora, still help out when people need it and write
small guides in swedish. Which i will continue to do regardless of what
status i have.
I like being an ambassador, but i will leave any decisions up to you to
make when it comes to me and being an ambassador. I will not be able to
attend to any meetings as things are today. I have very little time and
resources to attend shows and whatever.
The work i can do for fedora is what i am doing now. Being someone who
users can contact when needed (through www.linuxportalen.se), write
small guides in swedish and continue to answer fedora related questions
on IRC.
Well, i enjoy to be an ambassador but i dont think i am able to put down
the time that i think you want an ambassador to do.
Regards,
Mikael Jacobsson
