Re: [Fedora-ambassadors-list] Education
by Hornain Frederic
Dear Rahul, Alex, Greg and All,
Just to keep you in touch about "Fedora Education".
Following my previous mails and as planned I have been contacted by Mr Richard Barbosa from Red Hat EMEA - rbarbosa - in order to explain what "Fedora Education is". So now, I have a contact at Red Hat for the "Red Hat Academy" and he has a contact for the "Fedora Education". We can work together in order to deploy Linux at School.
BTW, I gave him Rahul, your email address. I think it should not be problem by the fact you are working for the same company, aren't you ?
If you are students or If you want to join the Fedora Education feel free to fill the URL : http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Education
You are welcome.
Finally, I have to add some information at this URL.
Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestion or remarks about "Fedora Education".
Best Regards

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Fedora work in Sweden!
by mosp
Hello mates ;)
I have a Fedora website up and running now. The base feels done, now i
need to translate as much as possible. Currently i am translating the
installation guide for FC4. After that i am going to translate stuff
like "managing software with yum" and other stuff from both
fedora.redhat.com and fedoraproject.org.
If there are any ambassadors that are involved in any specific projects,
for example some kind of software project for fedora core, please let me
know. I want to have descriptions of as many projects as possible at my
website.
If anyone have any suggestions on things to translate and publish, or
whatever, tell me... please... im all alone here ;)
website can be found at: http://fedora.kampnytt.com (i finally choose
xoop, mainly because other ambassadors seemes to use it, and it feels
good enough)
Now to something really frustrating. Ubuntu users are infecting the
Swedish community. Instead of helpning beginners with whatever distro
they have installed, these creepy ubuntu users convince the beginners to
install ubuntu...
I am trying my best to promote Fedora Core, but also not to look down on
someone that have chosen another distro. Yesterday a beginner came to a
swedish linuxcommunity and had some software installation issues with
mandriva. A solution to his problem was easy, but instead they tricked
him to change distro to Ubuntu.
Its hard to be alone and fight this "infection" ;)
Ubuntu ships cds free all over the world to any one who wants it. The
deliverytime is a bit slow. Its produced cds where you get one install
cd and one livecd...
I feel that we in the Fedora community needs to start making Fedora
avaible in more ways. We really need a working and complete livecd for
either download och shipping.
Well, im going to continue my translating work.
Until next time..

RE: [Fedora-ambassadors-list] About Fedora Promotion inUniversities/Schools
by Hornain Frederic
Dear Chitlesh, Ahmed, Abhishek and Dear all
I completly agree with you about promoting Fedora in School and University. Cause I am convinced that students of today will be the IT users of tomorrow.
Nonetheless, I thinks that "Promoting" can be divided into serveral categories which depends of what you plan to do.
1] Introdution of Fedora : In this domain, I can put the following actions : little event, distribution of DVDs/CDs, let a Fedora User guide at the library of the school, etc. And in addition, you can do it in almost every schools with the agreement of the principal. Level of diffculty : Not so difficult - depends of what students are studiing, of course -. Bad point: After you leave, who will maintain "the promotion of Fedora at this school ?" Good point: it is better than nothing. Cause I am sure few of you listeners will be intersted by what Fedora is.
2 ] Developement of Fedora at school : In this domain, you can have the following actions : Installation of Fedora for particular purpose - depends of the schools and the principal -, Utilisation of Fedora by students or teachers and so on, etc... It can be applicable at every schools. Level of diffculty : Not so easy cause you have to convince people at school and help them if they have problems. Good Luck!
3 ] Partnership between Fedora and the schools. With this one, you can do what you want - depending of what principal is accorfding you of course - cause a group of students or teachers have to be a part of the fedora project. I mean it must exist a little communauty inside the school which install, maintain and support Fedora in their schools. With this, schools can use the Fedora logo in their paper support and can have enrolement futur students intersted by Linux I think It can be only applicable at every HIGH schools and particulary at computers schools because they already know what Fedora is. Level of diffculty : Not so easy cause you have to convince Principal about the avantage to be partners with Fedora. Advantage : Intersting for computers students, Intersting for schools also - see above or http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Education -
For my part I prefer the domain number 3 cause it is auto-maintainable and after that they can apply in their respective area the domain 1 and principaly the domain 2 because they will not have the problem of helping distant people due to the fact that they are close of the school. Then they will have much more experience than student who are only studiing. That why I have I have created a wiki page for this kind subject http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Education.
If you want to join this project, do not hesitate. You are welcome !
Obviiously, if you have any remarks or suggestions feel free to conact me cause this project is not static.
In addition, if somthing is not clear feel free to conact me.
Finally, I will write something clearer than that at the URL http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Education.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Introductory handouts/flyers for Fedora newbies at LinuxAsia - ideas anyone ?
by Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
I think that we will have a number of Fedora newbies (or newbies to
Fedora) at LinuxAsia 2006.
Is there a handout/flyer ready that sort of talks of the following:
o What is Fedora
o What are the projects within Fedora
o Where to get Fedora
o Where to get in touch
o Mailing Lists (relevant ones aimed at newbies)
o IRC channels
o Found a Bug ? Why don't you tell us about it...
o Want to get involved ? Just here's how...
Regards
Sankarshan

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Education
by Hornain Frederic
Dear all,
FYI, as ambassador I went to close computers engineering schools in order to evangelize principals, teachers, students.
And even if someones thinks that it is impossible mission to change mentality due to schools policies, I have managed to convinced someones to let students installs Fedora on few school's computers in order to make Educational Open Source Projects.
Ok, it not a lot but it is better than nothing, friends.
Now, I have talked with a principal about "Fedora Education" and "Red Hat Academy", he was intersted by the both and for the "Red Hat Academy" part he has contacted Mr Barbosa from Red Hat EMEA.
So, I have send him an email in order to let him know what is the purpose of "Fedora Education" and the fact that this program is not a concurrent one but rather a complementary one.
Now, even if Fedora must be independant I think we should have more interaction with Red Hat people cause the aim is the same .
Thanks for reading
if you have any suggestions, remarks, feel free to contact me.
Best Regards Guys.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Distributing Kadischi FC5 Test 2 Live cds
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
Finally, we (Kadischi Contributors) came out with a ""working""
Kadischi for Fedora Core 5 Test 2. Some of you have read about our
progress on fp.org/people or on my blog. Ive shown to some of my
friends my live cd today based on Fedora Core 5 Test 2. Most of them
have seen Fedora Core 4 and Fedora Core 5 Test 2 has shown them how
much progress we've made. The comments were fairly outstanding
especially for our new Logo and artwork. 2 FC4 users are planning to
shift to FC5 once it's out.
Ive seen ThomasChung has launched a FreeMedia project. Personally this
is a great idea. But now soon Fedora Core 5 will be out with THE NEW
LOGO. We need to start something exceptional for this upcoming
release.
Im burning some copies of my Fedora Live CD for tomorrow's lug meeting.
Im thinking about sets of:
-(only) Gnome based cds
-(only) KDE based cds (some guys are pro-kde) :)
- a complete dvd
Sure there will be based only on the Fedora Policies :)
So maybe this might be another aspect of FreeMedia Project.
If you are testing Kadischi to build FC5T2 live cds, Ill remind you that
- kadischi is still in its early development stages
- testers are welcomed
- anaconda does not need patches
- building FC5T2 live cds is DIFFERENT from building FC4 live cds
Well, Ill be updating
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/Development wiki page tonight,
I call for patience :)
I remind to newcomers(ambassadors) that Kadischi is a Fedora Live CD
Creator Tool :)
