on/off ambassador status (was Re: [Ambassadors] Meeting minutes of the FAD)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
Jens pointed that what is written on the wiki could prevent some
potential contributors to join Fedora Ambassadors Project.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Conduct
" You are Fedora. As an ambassador, you don't just represent yourself,
you represent the Fedora Project. When people think of you, they will
think of the Fedora Project. "
This is a problem for those who earn a living working with other OSes,
but promote fedora during events. These potential contributors would
like to become ambassadors at the same time this title should not
destroy their professional image. This is problem of wordings in the
wiki.
In fact, there are several cases like these in the Fedora Marketing
Mailing list.
Can it be rewritten appropriately to provide on/off Fedora Ambassador status ?
Please note, that among those who are concerned by this, have already
contributed to the Fedora Project and still will, but would like to be
Fedora Ambassador at the time, and not during their working hours.

FAMSCo was (Re: Meeting minutes of the FAD)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
among the things discussions during the FAD, we discussed also FAMSCo status :)
I know we have already talked about the JoergSimon's request for DVDs
before the last FAMSCo election. But anyway, I'll talk about it again,
but as an example.
There was an interesting request for Fedora media by a german
university and this request was approved by the last FAMSCo members,
but unfortunately it wasn't shipped and neither my email to FAMSco
wasn't replied. In the end, we lost a very good opportunity for fedora
marketing and at the same time those who participated were left
behind. Since then ThomasChung is doing a for great job and I
congratulate him for that.
However, to prevent this next time, we (the FAD attendees) have come
to a "possible" solution which might be, "elect one FAMSco member per
region/continent". This FAMSCo member will be elected from the
ambassadors from his/her region only and as the same time will be
entitled to give priority to the requests of his/her ambassadors.
Let's say "Big events will be having greater budget/dvds"
Knowing the fact that,
1. many regions don't have enough ambassadors
2. and perhaps those ambassadors are fairly new to the team (from that region)
it might be difficult to assign a FAMSco member to those regions, (due
to the responsibilities)
In this case, another ambassadors from another regions can do the replacement.
Also, we (the FAD attendees) are FOR to boost the Fedora Mentor
Project with respect to the Fedora Ambassador Project.
Some "old" fedora ambassadors can join in the Fedora Mentor Project to help
- FAMSco members
- new ambassadors (we feel also that some new ambassadors don't share
the same fedora interest but only their personal interest)
- [...]
Again we are saying more REAL commitment from fedora ambassadors.
(not meant for people who are _really_ contributing)

Ambassadors List only Ambassadors only was (Re: Meeting minutes of the FAD)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
among those things discussed during the FAD, their was "closing down
subscription to Fedora Ambassadors list for non Fedora Ambassadors"
We had it in the past and I don't find the mail why now everyone can
subscribe to the Fedora Ambassadors List ?
This list (ambassadors list) is intended for Fedora Ambassadors
discussions and preparation for their events. It should be reserved to
Fedora Ambassadors only (archives can be public). Preparation for an
event (for fedora) is crucial and should be taken seriously, here
other fedora ambassadors can discuss things seriously with other
fedora ambassadors freely and he/she is sure to be able to contact
that person (due to CLA and stuffs). (At least by e-mail.) At the same
time, it gives the Fedora Ambassador Project its uniqueness :)
Fedora Marketing Mailing List can be left for anyone to subscribe.
comments/suggestions ?

FreeMedia India December List
by Siddharth Upmanyu
Hi All...
we are looking at more then 110 requests this month (in just 4 days) in
India and there is going to be huge shortage of approving Ambassadors...
as i will be taking up around 30 requests majority of them will still be
left out...
If anyone is willing to help specially India-Ambassadors they may start
approving and update the status on the wiki...
any bright ideas are welcome to sort out this "kind-of-problem"....

Proposal: Link to low-cost CD presses
by Michel Salim
Hello,
I notice that quite a few of the requests made to the Free Media
program came from USA, Canada, UK etc. It seems to me that at least
some of the request originators would be happy to use low-cost presses
like Cheapbytes instead but did not know that they exist.
Could we perhaps put up a page on the Wiki with links to such sites?
I've used Cheapbytes, Linux Emporium (United Kingdom) and a similar
service in Indonesia in the past, and have generally been very
satisfied. The Indonesian operation (I can't recall the name at the
moment) even delivers by courier to your house if you live in the
capital.
This would probably allow us to reach more people who *really* cannot
get access to the
DVDs otherwise (or have reasons not to trust online vendors)
Regards,

FreeMedia India Distribution Backlash
by Santosh Kumar
Hi fellow ambassadors,
I have received a few emails from requesters from India claiming that
though their FreeMedia Requests have been accepted, they haven't yet
received the FreeMedia's yet. I've just heard from those whose requests have
been accepted in October itself, let alone those who haven't yet been
accepted in October. Why is this happening?? Do we need a better and
efficient distribution system?
