[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Fedora Mirrors
by Tejas Dinkar
Many of the Ambassadors on this list will want to distribute FC5 CDs on
the day of release at various events.
Is there any way that a special mirror can be opened for the Ambassadors
say 2-3 days early, so that we have time to download the ISOs and have
time to burn CDs, so that we can distribute them?
Just a passing thought

Dear Rahul,
> It would be helpful if you can detail your ideas behind using Fedora for schools.
Indeed, the next generation of users, managers and so on... are currently at school and they will be the ones who will take the decisions in the futur. Agree ?
However, nearly all of them are using MS Windows for the moment. :(
Ok, I can admit more and more students are using Linux -I am glad ! :) - but the majority of these ones unfortunatly are still running proprietary OS.
Although it is maybe not the same case in all countries, in France and Belgium it is more and less like that.
Not due to students but mainly due to Edcuation choice, teachers knowledges or preferences, current technologies used in companies, so on so for....
So I am convinced we should invest in schools.
Because, if we can help students, teachers, and educational organistation to work actively with Linux and not only install it in order to know how it looks like. I pretty sure that we would manage the revolution cause if they have used it during their student life it could be their choice during their active life.
Ok, I agree. It will not be so easy than that cause when you begin your active life, you are not often directly an (IT) manager or the boss.
But if you are more than one who know linux in your first company I am sure you can influence the future choice of your manager.
Anyway, it is better than nothing.
In addition, there is more chance to use linux in their futur company if someone of the team know how to use it.
The ideas behind using Fedora for schools is to create a linux group of students, teachers in each school who interact with the fedora communauty and will learn the benefit of using open source instead of using proprietary systems.
>Is there any preconfigured setup or kickstart profiles?.
Well, I think that we have to start with computers University students.
>What are the current experiences and potential for improvements?
In the next few day, I will create a wiki page for that.
BTW, sorry for the quick explanation.
Hoping that is clear.
Anyway ,if you have any question, suggestions, or other, feel free to contact me
Best Regards
Fred

Is there any preconfigured setup or kickstart profiles?.
What are the current experiences and potential for improvements?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] I got you, babe
by Alex
Hello gang,
In the past few weeks, I have received more messages from Ambassadors
directed to me only than there were on the list. In most cases, I
could not really help but recommend to post the question to the list.
Why?
Because I am lazy?
Nope, not really. It is that I have about as many ressources as you
guys do, and because I do not konw everything. Pleasethink about the
experience and technical expertise you can tap into by posting to the
list!
Further, if you post to the list and in the end it will be me who will
respond to your question, everybody on the list will benefit from it,
so once again--our list is your best friend.
Cheers and read you on the list,
Alex

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Fwd: FW: XE: 2005/6
by Alex
Risking to appear the ignorant I am, I am forwarding this very puzzling
exchange to the list--the quoted table came as an Excel file, which I
converted to HTML and added to the body of the message.
In any case, does anyone have a better idea what Marcus Smith was trying to
say, if anything at all?
Cheers,
Alex

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] First Fedora workshop in Pakistan.
by Nayyar Ahmad
Hello All,
I have just joined Fedora Ambassador group, I am really pleased with
you people efforts, I am a true lover of Open Source, I have been
working to promote Linux/Open Source in different plate forms in
Pakistan, but after becoming Fedora Ambassador i have decide to go for
a workshop on Fedora, the expected audience is a 12 grade school
students, where mostly students are using MS-windows, I will conduct a
one day workshop (about 8 hrs.) and will first let them know Open
Source and GPL, while after it my aim will be to tell them howto basic
usage of Fedora. Expected audience strength will be around 50
students. For a success full workshop I need following support:
1. A pre-defined agenda for Fedora Workshop (if exists)
2. ppt, version slides on Open Source and Fedora. (if i can get
official version).
3. Fedora DVDs (if Alix help me :) )
4. I have plan to submit the detail report on this workshop, including
photos etc. Is there any repository for uploading this kind of event
reports, so that it can be included in Fedora Project official news.
5. Any other related material through which i can promote Fedora Project.
Waiting for you people help and comments,
Thanks

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Red Hat Magazine article on Fedora Ambassadors
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
If you arent reading Red Hat Magazine on a monthly basis or even reread
it daily you should. It has tons of interesting articles and many of
them are about Fedora. This month has a article on Fedora Ambassadors by
Greg Dek http://www.redhat.com/magazine/014dec05/features/ambassadors/
with special appearances from our very own Thomas Chung, Behdad
Esfahbod, Chitlesh Goorah and Jack Aboutboul. Of course anybody who
contributes to Fedora has their names embedded on the history of people
who changed the world anyway and by the way, here is a red carpet
welcome to any new Fedora Ambassadors who keep signing up on a regular
basis. Invite your friends, family, relatives and perhaps more importantly
your pets. Keep them coming I say...
Here is my favorite part for now
""There is this one particular sushi bar in San Francisco which is
visited by a number of Fedora contributors every time they are on the
West Coast. On our last trip there, we realized that the music system in
the sushi bar was running Fedora. So it turns out the great atmosphere
in the place was due in part to us. On that particular night, the sushi
tasted a little bit sweeter!""

3. implementing advnaced reverse proxy for large internet portal using ISP

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Fwd: Call for Papers for LinuxTag 2006 is still open
by Alex
Papers, anyone?
---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Wolfgang Drotschmann <drotschm(a)linuxtag.net>

Subject: Call for Papers for LinuxTag 2006 is still open
To: alex(a)fedoraproject.org
Dear Friend,
an eventful year 2005 has ended. An important event for the Open Source and
Free Software world was a successful LinuxTag 2005. One key for the success of
this event was your commitment. We would like to thank you for your
contribution for this event resp. your commitment in the last years.
LinuxTag has moved! The next event takes place in Wiesbaden, Germany, May 3 -
6, 2006. In order to prevent collisions with the 2006 FIFA World Cup which
starts in June LinuxTag 2006 takes place in May, which is six weeks earlier
than usual.
Wiesbaden, as the regional capital of Hesse, is located in the geographical
centre of Germany, and offers excellent travel connections. What is more, as a
part of the Rhine-Main region with its notable IT industry, it will attract a
"fresh" and big audience.
So, maybe you want to participate again, and place a submission for the next
LinuxTag? In this case, please read our CfP at
http://www.linuxtag.org/2006/en/home/cfp.html (English) or
http://www.linuxtag.org/2006/de/home/cfp.html (German) for more information.
The CfP will be open until January 15, 2006.
Eventually you are interested to participate in the organisation of LinuxTag
2006? We are still looking for reviewers for the open CfP. If you want to
join us, please drop me a note.
Thanks again! Hope to see you at LinuxTag 2006. On behalf of the LinuxTag
orga team I wish you a Happy New Year!
