Subject: Outage of fedorahosted mailing lists and services
There will be an outage starting at 2012-07-26 16:00 UTC, which will
last approximately 2 hours.
To convert UTC to your local time, take a look at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/UTCHowto or run:
date -d '2012-07-26 16:00 UTC'
Reason for outage:
In order to grow the fedora hosted services we are moving the services
email lists to a new server. This will require an outage of about an
hour as we turn off old services.. sync data.. turn on new services.

[PATCH conductor 0/4] LDAP user group support
by Scott Seago
TO use this you need to install the ldap_fluff gem (or rpm). Configure
doesn't yet generate the /etc/ldap_fluff.yml config file so yo need
to configure that manually for now. Here's what's in mine that I used for testing:
$ cat /etc/ldap_fluff.yml
---
host: localhost
port: 389
encryption:
base_dn: ou=People,dc=my-domain,dc=com
group_base: ou=Groups,dc=my-domain,dc=com
server_type: :posix
ad_domain:
service_user:
service_pass:
anon_queries: false
ldap_fluff repo I used: https://github.com/jsomara/ldap_fluff.git
The gem is also on github.
Once ldap auth is activated we'll automatically created ldap groups in
the conductor database that correspond to a user's memberships when that
user logs in. You can also "pre-load" ldap groups by creating ldap
groups via the User Groups UI. This does not confirm that the group is currently
in ldap, so you can actually create it before the group exists on the ldap server.
This is harmless -- it just means that nobody will actually belong to
the group yet.

Screencasting ideas for Aeolus
by Justin Clift
Hi Dan and Alex,
Steve's creating new official Aeolus rpms for Fedora
16, with the recent User Interface bug fixes included.
This will give us a solid foundation to do Aeolus
screencasts with. So, lets get them happening. :)
For what to screencast, this is my initial thinking
so far (please :
a) promo type screencasts for front page and About
page(s).
* Probably need the front page one to be very brief.
1 min or so. Obviously not super technical. :)
* About page stuff should also be brief, but enough
in depth to introduce all of the major pieces.
We'll probably need to shortlist the important
features we want to include, and plan these out in
some depth.
b) educational/instructional screencasts for new user
pages, project pages and just about anywhere else.
Bonus points if we can figure out how to embed a
player in wiki pages, in a decent fashion. :)
* Screencast the start to finish of the Getting
Started Guide. Add it (or a link) to the "Get
It" page in an intelligent way, so people can
go from there to either the GSG pages or the
screencast. (their choice)
* Show full Audrey setup (client and server) then
deployment of the Wordpress examples.
* Explain/show how to use ImageFactory's
target_content.xml on oVirt and VMware, for
automatic inclusion of platform specific guest
agents. (VMware tools, Audrey guest)
What else do we want to show? :)
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift

Unofficial first cut of demo-able upstream rpms
by Justin Clift
Hi all,
This is an unofficial first cut of Aeolus rpm's potentially
suitable for screencasting with (Fedora 16 only):
http://justinclift.fedorapeople.org/unofficial/
These are based on the official 0.10.5 rpms currently in
Fedora 16's stable updates, with some UI fixes and other key
bits added from latest developer efforts.
There is one _minor_ outstanding obvious UI bug still needing
fixing, Jozef (CC'd) will take a look at that tomorrow.
If that's easily fixable, new rpms including it will come
along. If it's not, we can use these rpms until we get new
official one done properly. :)
For reference, this shows the additional patches added:
https://github.com/justinclift/conductor/commits/0.10.x
Everything since the "Jun 29, 2012" date.
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift

+Aeolus Conductor
+================
+
+About
+-----
+Aeolus Conductor is a Ruby-based web framework for cloud management. It
+is one component of the [Aeolus Project](http://www.aeolusproject.org/).
+
+For a chart of how Conductor fits with the other components, see:
+[Aeolus Components](https://www.aeolusproject.org/redmine/projects/aeolus/wiki/Ae...
+
+Just Want To Try It Out?
+------------------------
+
+If your goal is just to try it out, start here:
+[Get It](https://www.aeolusproject.org/get_it.html)
+
+Otherwise, if you are a developer that wants to set up a development
+enviornment for Conductor using the latest upstream code, this
+document is for you.
+
+Setting Up a Development Environment Using Bundler
+--------------------------------------------------
+
+All the ruby gems that we rely on for development we grab locally in
+our working directory via Bundler. Therefore, the only ruby gems that
+must already be installed gem and bundler.
+
+### System Prerequisites ###
+
+There are a few things that need to be done as root or a sudo-enabled
+user before we check out the Conductor repository and fire up the
+development server.
+
+We rely on the system to provide some development libraries, ruby and a
+database. Specifically for RHEL 6 or Fedora Core 16 or 17, we can grab these
+dependencies (assuming our database of choice is postgres) with:
+
+ yum install -y postgresql-server postgresql postgresql-devel ruby
+ ruby-devel ruby-rdoc git libxml2 libxml2-devel libxslt
+ libxslt-devel gcc gcc-c++
+
+This set of requirements are not unusual and should look familiar to
+the experienced Ruby developer.
+
+We will need an aeolus system user, so if necessary execute a couple
+of shell commands like "useradd aeolus" and "passwd aeolus".
+
+Setting up postgres can be a bit of a nuisance for the unitiated; here
+are some shell commands that are known to work for RHEL6 or FC16/17:
+
+ # For RHEL6, comment in:
+ # service postgresql initdb
+ # Otherwise for FC16 or 17:
+ # postgresql-setup initdb
+
+ echo 'local all all trust' > /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
+ echo 'host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust' >> /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
+ echo 'host all all ::1/128 trust' >> /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
+
+ chown postgres.postgres /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
+ chmod go-rw /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
+
+ # For RHEL6, comment in:
+ # service postgresql start
+ # Otherwise for FC16 or FC17:
+ # systemctl start postgresql.service
+
+ su - postgres -c "psql -c \"CREATE USER aeolus WITH PASSWORD 'v23zj59an';\""
+ su - postgres -c "psql -c \"alter user aeolus CREATEDB;\""
+
+Make sure that you have gem and bundler installed. The version of gem
+installed shouldn't matter much, but you may just want to grab the
+latest stable version of gem and install it manually, for instance:
+
+ mkdir -p gem-install
+ cd gem-install
+ wget http://production.cf.rubygems.org/rubygems/rubygems-1.8.24.tgz
+ tar -xzf rubygems-1.8.24.tgz
+ cd rubygems*
+ ruby setup.rb
+
+ # install bundler
+ gem install bundler
+
+### Setting Up a Development Workspace ###
+
+The following sample shell commands check out the Conductor code to a
+directory named "w1/conductor." Gems pulled down by bundler live in
+"/w1/gem".
+
+It is highly recommended to execute these commands as the aeolus user,
+as some of the postgres setup executed below assumes this is the case.
+
+ export here=`pwd`
+ export WORKDIR="$here/w1"
+ mkdir -p $WORKDIR
+ cd $WORKDIR
+ git clone git://github.com/aeolusproject/conductor.git
+ cd $WORKDIR/conductor
+ git submodule init
+ git submodule update
+
+ # where the gems bundle pulls down will live:
+ mkdir -p $WORKDIR/bundler
+
+ # pull down the gem dependencies
+ cd $WORKDIR/conductor/src
+ export USE_BUNDLER=yes
+ bundle install --path $WORKDIR/bundler
+
+ # In this example, we use postgres.
+ cp $WORKDIR/conductor/src/config/database.pg \
+ $WORKDIR/conductor/src/config/database.yml
+
+ # create db schema
+ bundle exec rake -v db:create:all
+ # answer yes to command below
+ bundle exec rake -v dc:setup
+
+ # Precompile some needed stylesheets.
+ bundle exec compass compile
+
+ # Start the server
+ bundle exec rails server
+
+That's it! With the last line below, your development server should
+be listening on port 3000.
