[PATCH aeolus-configure] #2766 - Adds additional EC2 regions
by Matt Wagner
This patch causes "aeolus-configure -p ec2" to set up all 5 EC2 regions as providers.
Deltacloud and Image Factory already support these, so with this in place, it becomes possible to build, push, and launch to any of the current EC2 regions.
If you do an end-to-end test of this, remember to make sure the security group in the new region has inbound ssh enabled. That tripped me up at first.

[PATCH Conductor 0/2] Conductor uses oauth to connect to Config Server
by Greg Blomquist
Now, Conductor will use oauth to connect to Config Server when posting the instance configuration files.
Also, fixing a bug where Conductor failed to launch deployables with inter-assembly references.
To test oauth changes against a config server:
1) launch an instance of ami-ff589696
2) log into the launched instance and run:
[root@localhost ~]# aeolus-configserver-setup-httpd
2a) "Do you wish to continue [y/N]:"
Enter "y"
2b) "Enter the application URL [http://localhost:4567/]:"
Hit <Enter> to accept the default value
2c) Watch puppet run
3) Collect the "Conductor Auth Key" and "Conductor Auth Secret" from the script output (shows up just before puppet's output)
4) In Conductor, goto "Administer" -> "Cloud Providers" -> [An EC2 Provider] -> "Accounts"
Select the ec2 provider account for the provider
5a) If you have an existing Config Server setup, select "[ Edit ]" next to the Config Server.
5b) If you do not have an existing Config Server setup, select "[ Add ]"
6) Enter:
Server Endpoint (URL): https://[ec2-external-hostname]
Consumer Key: The Conductor Auth Key from Step #3
Consumer Secret: The Conductor Auth Secret from Step #3
7) Save
Now you can launch a deployable that includes service configurations.
Here is an example:
https://www.aeolusproject.org/redmine/attachments/download/197/deployable...
NOTE: To use this deployable-sample.xml you will have to replace the image IDs to match images you have in your image warehouse.

OAuth on wiki and your presentation
by Justin Clift
Hi Matt,
Looking at the OAuth page on our wiki, and your presentation for it,
are they totally correct for Aeolus 0.5.0?
Specifically, things like the filenames used (users.js, settings.yml, etc)
Thinking of referring to them in setup instructions, but noticed several
patches through october that changed filenames around.
?
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift

Re: [PATCH 0/2 aeolus-image-rubygem] #2462 - OAuth-capable Factory client
by Justin Clift
Hi Matt,
In your 0/2 patch for the aeolus-image ruby gem, you have this bit:
[1] I highly doubt that a patch adding OAuth support to Active Resource would be
accepted upstream, as it would introduce a dependency on the oauth gem to a core
component of Rails.
Do you reckon it would be worth asking them upstream if they'd have any interest
in this, and/or suggestions on better ways to do it?
I'm happy to do the initial asking if you can't be bothered.
Note - Will most definitely handball to you if they start asking or suggesting
technical stuff. :)
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift

Aeolus Tech School?
by Martyn Taylor
Hi Gents,
It's pretty hard work keeping up to speed with all the latest tech stuff
we use in aeolus such as rails and various other libraries, Agile
processes and all that jazz. I and I guess a lot of you guys don't
really get much time to branch out and research something new and
interesting that you feel would help your work, the team or just
something you'd like to look into.
To help a little, I'm hoping to set up a monthly meet, where anyone who
wants to get involved can go away and research a new technical topic by
either reading a technical book or just research a topic online; then
present their findings to the rest of the group. It's a win win
situation, on an individual basis you get say 5 for the price of 1 (i.e.
you read 1 book but get the knowledge of 5) and it's a win for the Team
as a whole as it brings in a whole new set of skills and knowledge into
the group.
I'm thinking we could pull together a list of topics/skills that we feel
we are lacking in the project. Then once a month we get a list of
people who want to take part and their chosen topic (doesn't have to be
an aeolus one, but preferably one that others might be interested in).
Then at the end of the month we schedule say 30mins to an hour for each
person to present their findings. We could just distribute a set of
slides and do a conf call or use elluminate oir what ever people are
comfortable with.
Let me know if you are interested so I can get an idea of numbers to see
if its worth while organising.
Thanks
Martyn

[PATCH configure] BZ 747768 - aeolus-configure should exit w/ non 0 exit code if there is a failure
by Richard Su
Turned on puppet's detailed exit codes option.
Puppet exits 0 if success or 2 if success and changes were made.
Added code to exit 1 if puppet exits with status other than 0 or 2.
