hi,
I'm not sure if this has been discussed here.
Will this project be impacted in some way by the CentOS decission?
No - the developers of this project will support 389-ds the same in centos as we always
have, the same as we have supported fedora/rhel/opensuse. As a project and a team we take
quality very seriously, and even in a rolling release like centos or opensuse tumbleweed
we will ensure that upgrades will work. Having previously worked at RH I can also assert
that I trust the RH QE teams to do great work to maintain the high standard of centos in
the future as well.
I'm about to start a new setup and I wanted to use CentOS, but now I'm thinking
about Debian.
In that regard, is there any difference between Debian packages and CentOS ones?
The 'core team' does not have much involvement in the debian 389-ds packaging
process, but the debian maintainer has always been responsive and done a great job from
what I am able to observe. I would expect there to be "very little" difference
between debian and centos 389-ds packages.
Additionally, you could also consider opensuse leap and/or suse linux enterprise if you
want paid support (disclosure - I work for suse and am paid to maintain 389-ds in those
distributions).
thanks in advance,
abosch
