Since i've been using it, its been flawless.  Its a scalable implementation, 389-console was great for providing a refined way to setup replication, SSL certs, etc.  You might want to use a better front end to administer users, groups, etc.  I'd recommend it for production.  If you need commercial support, there's Redhat directory Server.  hope this helps..
