Admin dashboards are a huge attack surface, while they have their uses they aren’t universally a good idea in many cases. A simple rest API would be far better.
I understand, but we needed a 389-console replacement in Fedora
28/RHEL8, or else we would need to support the java
389-console/Admin Server for another 8 years (or something like
that). So creating a Cockpit UI plugin gets us off of the old
console within F28 deadline, and like I said, moving forward we now
have the option (without time constraints) to do a full feature
standalone Admin Server with REST support. Just to reiterate we
needed to do something "now" so we could get off of the old console.
