movie screen shot?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
I need to send a tech support guy a movie of what
is happening and what I am doing with their program.
Is there a way to make a movie of an area on my
screen?
Many thanks,

fedora mate spin accessibility?
by majid hussain
hi there,
my name is majid hussain,
I am blind.
I have downloaded the fedora mate spin and am trying to launch orca the screen reader from the live iso.
via mate's alt plus f2 shortcut.
orca is not running however.
could someone tell me if orca has been added to the latest fedora 35 mate spin iso?
I am able to launch mate-terminal via alt plus f2 and test audio output via testing espeak-ng which works.
is there a place to get the list of packages that are contained in fedora mate iso?
thank you for your assistence in advance.

Dnf MutableMapping
by Jonathan Ryshpan
Whenever I run dnf these messages appear. Dnf appears to run
correctly, but it would be nice to know what the messages mean, and if
they don't indicate anything harmful, how to make them go away
$ sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
Failed loading plugin "product-id": module 'collections' has no
attribute 'MutableMapping'
Failed loading plugin "subscription-manager": module 'collections' has
no attribute 'MutableMapping'
Failed loading plugin "upload-profile": module 'collections' has no
attribute 'MutableMapping'

Updating F32 (with Nvidia drivers) and startup hangs.
by Fulko Hew
I'm not sure where the problem lies, so I'll start out with where I'm
coming from...
I built a machine 2 years ago to support the Folding@Home project
using F32 and an Nvidia 2060 card.
It's been running non-stop ever since.
But I want to update the system to the latest and greatest release and
drivers
(since it appears that my old? CUDA drivers have stopped working with F@H)
So first I updated all my packages using dnf and attempted a reboot
(into the new kernel) and that's where the first problem appeared.
The boot process hangs with the last message on the screen being
"Notify NFS peers of a restart"
(I don't have any NFS configured on this machine.)
So I rebooted with my old working kernel and examined /var/log/messages
and I see:
Jan 1 12:36:10 localhost sh[972]: (bad exit status: 2)
Jan 1 12:36:10 localhost sh[4378]: Error! Bad return status for module
build on kernel: 5.11.22-100.fc32.x86_64 (x86_64)
Jan 1 12:36:10 localhost sh[4378]: Consult
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/440.82/build/make.log for more information.
Looking at that file, I see a variety of errors basically telling me there's
incompatibilities between the stuff Nvidia uses to get itself 'linked in'
at boot
time, and what the kernel is now providing.
If I can't get to a GUI screen to be able to fetch and install newer NVIDIA
drivers
how can I get my system updated?
Suggestions welcome.
TIA
Fulko

mediawriter won't finish
by Geoffrey Leach
Running Fedora 32, up-to-date
Running mediawriter-4.1.7-1.fc32.x86_64 (as root) with a SanDisk Cruzer
32G USB drive, mediawriter continues without complaint until its done
(by the progress bar) and then aborts saying it can't write the drive.
"Destination drive not writable"
The USB port is operable.
Suggestions?

Source for apt-get-repository
by Geoffrey Leach
I have a need to run apt-get-repository to get a debugging tool from my
system mfg. It appears that in the Debian environment, this program is
provided with the software-properties-common, which appears not to have
been ported to fedora.
Or perhaps its in another package?
Pointers appreciated.

urgent problem: "NVIDIA kernel module missing..."
by home user
(f34)
I'm using my old windows-7 box to do e-mail.
I did my weekly patches ("dnf upgrade") an hour ago. After rebooting,
after the rightmost rectangle turns white, I get the message "NVIDIA
kernel module missing. Falling back to nouveau.". A few seconds later,
the 3 rectangles turn orange. Then the screens go black and nothing
further happens. I have to use the reset button on the top of the
tower. The behavior is the same no matter which of the 3 grub menu
Fedora entries I choose. No luck with the rescue mode (f30). I do have
an f31 live USB stick, but that has no e-mail client.
How do I get my f34 working properly? All I have to work with is
windows-7 (this is a dual-boot workstation) and the f31 live USB stick.
Please keep in mind that I'm a "home user" with no sys.admin. training.
My sys.admin. skills are *very* basic.

resize luks-encrypted physical partition
by lejeczek
Hi
Has anybody fiddled with luks encrypted partition - I say
fiddle as I do not think it supported - sizes?
To be specific - I'd need to grow such a partition.
Normally it would be simple thing - remove, create partition
+ keep luks headers - but have not means to lab-test it thus
asking here.
many thanks, L

Bad USB drive?
by Robert Moskowitz
I have a 32Gb USB stick that is not showing up gparted.
I insert it and I see it in /dev as sdb. No partitions.
I tried fdisk:
# fdisk -l /dev/sdb
fdisk: cannot open /dev/sdb: No medium found
Is this dead? Is there some other tool I can use to get it working? If
there was ever anything on the drive, it would only be a copy of
something, so nothing to try and recover. Other than a nice 32G USB stick.
thanks!

mp4 to dvd
by Michael Hennebry
Any suggestions for converting mp4 files to VOB?
Even an example with mencoder might be useful.
Long long ago, I used mencoder for making DVD video files.
Lost track of the script I used.
I tried it again recently,
but getting all the options right was making my head swim.
At least one of the files I want to convert is 480x360@24 .
