strange error on shutdown
by Paolo Galtieri
I was in the process of rebooting my system after doing an update and
got the following:
error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon
dracut Warning:
/lib/dracut-lib.sh: line 1088: /sbin/rdsosreport: No such file or directory
You might want to save "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt" to a USB stick
or /boot
after mounting them and attach to a bug report.
To get more debug information in the report,
reboot with "rd.debug" added to the kernel command line.
Dropping to debug shell.
shutdown:/#
At this point anything I type is not displayed, but the output is.
For example
shutdown:/# sh: child setpgid (4318 to 4318): Permission denied
It then displayed the output of the ls command which I had typed.
So what does this mean, and what should I do if I see this again?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paolo

Try '/bin/basename --help' for more information.

F28 suspend to RAM seems to be broken
by Robert Moskowitz
Using Xfce desktop. I have been having flaky suspend activity since
shortly after I installed F28 and it is getting worst.
I have noticed that sometimes on suspend, it right-away unsuspends then
I log in, suspend again and it 'keeps'. I thought it might be because
of libvirt-guests taking too long to suspend the VMs. So I disabled
libvirt-guests and stopped it.
I suspended and the system hung. had to hard poweroff by the power button.
So I got in, applied all updates, got everything set up and suspended in
preparation to heading to the airport. It locked up.
Restarted and suspended with NOTHING running. Well nothing obvious!
And it did the immediate restart and had to suspend again.
I am now sitting in the Delta lounge, restarting everything. This is
the one week that I cannot afford this behavior, as I will be suspending
MANY times a day at my conference...
any pointers?
thanks

Thanks for your quick reply and for making Fedora an operating system
that I really like to use!
Although I see your point about not wanting to change the user
experience, I think it would be good to make a an up-to-date version of
the package available -- especially since some people haven't quite come
to terms with Flatpaks.
I also noticed there is a COPR available [1], but I really prefer to use
only the official package repositories.
Best regards!

Touchpad right/middle click?
by Christopher
I noticed today that F28 Gnome 3 doesn't seem to support right or middle
click on my multi-touch area touchpad (standard Dell touchpad) on Wayland
or Xorg.
I've read that this is related to libinput, but for all the discussions
I've found on various forums, I've yet to find a solution. Usually I use a
mouse, so I haven't noticed before, but this is hugely inconvenient not to
have right or middle click. When did this break in Fedora? I know it used
to work fine.
Had anybody found a reliable solution to restore full touchpad
functionality?

Can't change sddm login screen
by Jonathan Ryshpan
I believe I have used
System Settings->Startup and Shutdown->Login Screen (SDDM)
correctly. I
* set the theme to Breeze
* click on Background
* click on the green image
* choose a local file
* click Apply
The green box is replaced by a thumbnail of my chosen image.
However there is on effect on the login screen and when I start over
at
System Settings->Startup and Shutdown->Login Screen (SDDM)
the image is gone and the green box has reappeared.
What's (not) happening? Maybe a missing configuration directory?
No easy to find error messages.
Thanks - jon

Gajim
by eqie@mailbox.org
Dear All,
according to [1], only an old version of Gajim is available in the
standard repositories for F27 as well as F28.
So I was wondering, why that's the case and also weather there are any
plans to make a more recent version of Gajim available to the users of
Fedora.
Best regards!

Suspend working?
by Robert Moskowitz
Lost the thread on this suspend problem. Tried to find it, so I started
anew....
So far the 4.17.7 kernel is working. I did a lot of suspends as I
opened each new app. Then I let things run for 1/2 a day. This latest
suspend did that double thing, with the system coming right out of
suspend and having to unlock and then suspend. Don't remember that
happening other than the first suspend after poweron (which it did).
But so far things are working. I will try a suspend tomorrow and see.
Normally at home the only time I suspend is friday late afternoon to
have everything in the office 'off' until Saturday night. Not like at a
conference where I suspend my system a dozen times per day.
So I will keep a watch and see.
Fun!
Not :(
